Preventing ticks is always better than treating a tick-related illness. Thankfully, there are lots of effective tick prevention options available,
including spot-on treatments, sprays, and long-lasting collars. These can be used alongside or sometimes instead of your pet’s usual parasite control, depending on the product. Some treatments repel ticks, while others kill them after they attach. Either way, reducing the time ticks spend on your pet lowers the risk of disease. Even with protection, it’s still a good idea to check your pet for ticks after walks, especially in areas where ticks are more common. If you find one, it’s best to remove it promptly. Not sure which product is right for your pet? Our vets and nurses are always happy to help you choose the most suitable option. We all love a day at the seaside with our four-legged friends, but let’s make sure we’re keeping our beaches safe, clean and fun for everyone 🏖🐶
✅ Pick up after your dog - and dispose of poo bags properly
✅ Be observant of restrictions - not all beaches allow dogs all year round
✅ Keep your dog under control - use a lead in busy areas or near wildlife
✅ Don’t let your dog approach others without checking first - not every dog or person wants to say hello
✅ Watch out for heatstroke - take breaks for shade and fresh water, and stay out of the intense midday sun
✅ Never let your dog drink seawater - small amounts can cause vomiting or diarrhoea and large amounts can have dangerous consequences

How hot is too hot for a dog walk? 🌡 Each dog is different, for example Brachycephalic (flat faced), elderly or young, excitable dogs are more at risk of heat stroke, but the below shows a general rule of thumb in terms of care needed when walking your dog in hot weather. Did you know? Human sun cream is toxic to our pets 🌞 Don’t worry though, pet safe sun cream is available to protect your pets from sunburn. We would recommend applying pet safe sun cream to any parts of your pet that has pink skin showing on sunny days if they spend time outside - white or black and white cats with white ears are a prime example! Unprotected continued exposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer.
