National Rescue Dog Day - Sully Pickle

At 6 months I found myself in a kennel at a rescue centre. A lady came to meet me but said she didn’t connect with me. Then another human came. I barked and lunged at her as I was scared. Apparently this didn’t put the human off as she said my curly tail was a strong selling point. She took me for a walk where I settled a little and tried to do zoomies on lead. The same human returned again and we went on a longer walk. The third time she came, she took me to her car and drove me to a new home. As we parked up on the driveway, I gave her a kiss on the face and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

As I wasn’t socialised much as a puppy and whilst I’ve come a very long way, I still have some anxieties and can be unpredictable with what I react to, so my human keeps me on lead for my own safety - I need to feel secure. Whilst I will always be my humans number one, I share her with many other four legged friends. There are five other dogs in the family and ontop of this, my human is a Dog Walker. I go to the secure dog park three to four times a week for off lead fun and games aswell as joining in on daily walks in the countryside. Whilst some people can make me feel unsettled, I love all my doggy friends.

Betsie, Hector and their humans helped me to settle in when I was first rescued, but I’ve come so far that I now help some of my humans client dogs to make them feel more secure and confident when out walking. I like to lead the way and what I mean by that is, I’m in charge.

My favourite things are zoomies, toys, holidays and my humans bed. I obviously have my own bed, but my humans is bigger and I like to treat it as my own.

Being given up at such a young she wasn’t the easiest start in life, but being rescued and rehomed was the best thing ever for both myself and my human. She’ll tell you I wasn’t easy, but nothing worth having in life ever is. She’ll also tell you how all the love and patience I needed was totally worth it. I’ve gone from being fantastically feral to perfectly imperfect and oh boy, I’m loved by so many.
