⛔️ Due to the temperatures forecast tomorrow remaining extremely high, even first thing in the morning, I have made the decision to cancel all dog walks/training tomorrow.

As always, the welfare of the dogs in my care has to come first, and I do not feel the conditions will be safe or appropriate for walking and/or training.

For dogs that are home alone, I will still be offering home visits.

Thankfully, it does look a little cooler again after tomorrow for the next few days 🤞🐾

Thank you for your understanding.

Due to the predicted hot weather tomorrow , the decision has been made to cancel the Fun Dog Show for the safety and wellbeing of our furry friends. ☀️🐶

When temperatures get this high, conditions can quickly become dangerous for dogs, even when keeping to the shade.

Dogs can struggle to regulate their body temperature when it's hot, placing them at risk of heatstroke and serious illness. Their safety must always come first.

Please do still go along and support the wonderful Flower Festival, but doggies are kindly asked to stay safely at home.

Thank you for your understanding

Got out with the doggies nice and early this morning to beat the heat ☀️🐾

Started at 6am 😬 but was very kindly rewarded with a wonderful refreshing treat from a lovely client. 🩷
Thank you Anila 😘

A little reminder while the temperatures are up: 😎🐾👍🏼

Don’t be a fool, keep your dogs cool.
The heat can be dangerous, it’s no joke,
Dogs can quickly suffer heatstroke.

Walk early morning or later at night,
Avoid the midday sun when it’s blazing bright.

Hot pavements burn little paws with ease,
Even a gentle breeze doesn’t always mean relief.

Fresh water, shade, enrichment and rest,
On hot days, keeping things calm is best.

If in doubt, skip the walk altogether,
Your dog will thank you in this weather

Stay shady, baby 😎 ✌🏼

🥳 More Behaviour Clinic News! 🐾

I am really pleased to announce that I will now be holding monthly behaviour clinics for clients with Pauline Sell Veterinary Surgeon.
The first clinic will be running in June.

If you are experiencing behavioural concerns with your dog, please pop along and speak to Pauline and her team. They will be able to ensure there are no underlying medical concerns that could be contributing to your dog’s behaviour and will then be happy to book you in for an assessment.

As always, all behavioural work is carried out via veterinary referral in line with professional guidelines, helping to ensure your dog receives the most appropriate support and care.

If you need any more information, please ask at the surgery or feel free to get in touch with me directly.

I am Looking forward to meeting lots of lovely dogs and helping owners better understand the behaviours they may be struggling with 🐶

Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” — Maya Angelou

The science behind animal behaviour is always evolving, and any good trainer or behaviourist should be committed to keeping up with new research, learning, and evidence-based practice.

I’ve recently signed up for a monthly membership alongside a course in psychoactive medication with Trinity Veterinary Behaviour and the brilliant Dr Katrin Jahn, so I can continue developing my understanding of behaviour, pain, emotions, medication, and the brain.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and ongoing learning are such an important part of my role, but honestly… I love it. I love extending my knowledge so I can better support as many dogs and their guardians as possible.

When seeking help or advice for your pets, always ensure it is up-to-date, science-backed, ethical, and welfare-led.

Our understanding grows all the time, and with that comes the opportunity to do even better for the animals in our care 🐾

Bit of scent work in the garden. Interesting how the wind was sending the scent to the left so Jess was investigating the pot next to where the hide actually was. But he found it! 🥰

Come and join the fun at the dog show. Saturday 23rd May, registration starts at 1:45pm. All dogs welcome 🐶❤️🐾

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday…..a busy Behaviour Clinic at North Weald Vets helping owners and their dogs. 🐾

I really do love running my behaviour clinics within the veterinary environment. Behaviour and physical health are so closely linked, and I think it’s incredibly important that we look at the whole dog, not just the behaviour we are seeing on the surface.

So often, behavioural changes can be linked to underlying pain, discomfort, or medical issues. Dogs communicate through behaviour, and sometimes what we are seeing is a dog struggling physically as well as emotionally.

This is exactly why veterinary involvement is not just important, but essential within behavioural work. As a qualified behaviourist, working alongside vets and ensuring any possible medical contribution is explored forms a hugely important part of both ethical and welfare-led practice.

A really interesting paper by Daniel Mills et al. (2020) highlighted just how common the link between pain and behaviour may be, with some referral caseloads showing pain playing a role in between 28–82% of behaviour cases. The study discussed how pain may directly cause behavioural changes, exacerbate existing behaviour concerns, or contribute to additional stress-related behaviours. The authors concluded that suspected pain should always be considered early, rather than only after behaviour therapy alone has not worked.

This collaborative approach between vets and behaviourists should be considered an essential part of good proactive behavioural practice. Working together allows us to better support both dogs and their owners whilst ensuring welfare remains at the heart of everything we do.

A huge thank you to the lovely team at North Weald Vets for having me, and to all the owners who attended the clinic today.
