I’m tired of having to say this but yet again I was driving round a blind bend down Breach Lane and had to brake quickly for two horse riders coming towards me one of whom was on her phone. I duly passed them at 10 mph but had no recognition and had it been a larger vehicle and one of the horses had spun round rider or horse could have been seriously hurt. Please keep phones in your pocket - for emergencies only. I have spent 40yrs in this area hoping to educate drivers and riders alike to respect each other’s use of the road. The horses were both palominos heading towards Little Park. Yard managers do something about educating your riders and liveries.

Driving back home from RWB I just passed a young girl riding one horse & leading another heading towards Wootton Lodge corner. She was on her mobile & didn’t even look up to check what traffic was coming, & didn’t acknowledge me slowing down to 10 miles an hour ! Country lanes these days are getting so dangerous with fast or heavy traffic, it makes me so angry when I see this sort of behaviour from one of our own - inconsiderate riders should not be allowed to be in charge of horses on the road they are too precious. Let’s hope that not every rider behaves like this, nowadays there are far too many horse related accidents on the road. Please share

Not many drivers have ACTUALLY read the latest version of the Highway Code !

Drivers should watch out for horses on the road, especially when approaching bends and on narrow rural roads.
They should always slow down when seeing a horse and drive past slowly, giving them plenty of room and being ready to stop if necessary.
Drivers should never sound their horn or rev their engine near horses.
