It’s been over a month since we lost our beautiful boy Guto to stomach cancer. We are gradually coming to terms with what a huge loss this is. We take great comfort in all of the wonderful memories we had with Guto, aka “the little git” over the last 9 years and wanted to share some of those with everyone. Guto came to us at 4 months old from Many Tears animal rescue. He was quite shut down when we brought him home, and although showed a lot of confidence around other dogs, he could be quite scared of people and new experiences. With a lot of training and patience, he became amazingly confident in all sorts of scenarios, but our favourite memories of him were when he was cheeky and mischievous - a trait he had from the day we met him until the day we had to say goodbye. He was toy mad, to the extent that he could find a ball anywhere. We’d often have him on lead on a beach, turn around to look at him, and he’d be carrying someone else’s ball! He’d often steal things at home too, and tease you with them - slippers were his favourite, even stealing them off my feet! He loved winding up a gang of larger dogs in the playroom, and teasing them to try and get him which they never could due to his ridiculous level of agility. Being the affectionate dog that he was, we’d often wake up to him having floated up onto our bed, laying his head on the pillow between us, and sometimes waking us up with a kiss! But one of our favourite moments happened just last year. We had taken him into a pet food shop, Continental Animal Feeds, where one of the ladies working there had asked if she could say hello to him. He acted like this was a great idea, moving towards her, then in the last instant, side stepped her to steal a massive chew from the shelf. We all fell about laughing as he and Paul had a tug of war in the shop to try and get it off him!
Our lives are so much emptier, quieter, and lacking in chaos without him. There wasn’t one day where he didn’t make us laugh. Although we are so sad he’s gone, we feel extremely lucky to have spent our time with the happiest, cheekiest little git. Love you Guto x
