I'm Helen and dedicated dog mum to Oatis, Nerys, Marley and Faye, who are my absolute world. My aim in life is to give them, and as many other dogs as possible, the best life they can have which is how Helen's Home came to be. Along with my sister, Aunty Debbie and Aunty Jen and Aunty Skye, who are all very special 'crazy' dog ladies, we offer the following services to help your dogs live their be
st lives. Grooming
We offer trust based grooming for small/medium breeds in a home setting - I had been grooming for five years after my own dog Oatis had a negative experience at a grooming salon which left him terrified of being touched. He would only let me handle him due to the bond we had so I taught myself how to groom using trust based techniques, with the intent of being able to maintain him myself and accidently fell into grooming professionally instead when discovering how many dogs struggled to cope in a salon setting. At Helen's Home , we are groomers who have a particular passion for helping nervous dogs or those who have had a bad experience and work hard to ensure dogs have the kindest, most positive experience they can have during the grooming experience. How the dog feels is more important to us than how the dog looks and we firmly believe in humanity before vanity. We offer puppy introduction packages to ensure the best possible start to a lifetime of grooming (particularly important for double coated breeds). We also offer desensitisation programmes for dogs who are fearful of grooming. We offer what we consider to be the ultimate dog walking service in the form of our Dog's Day Out - the kind of outing our own dogs love. We collect dogs from their homes (in and around the Gorseinon area) and take them to Wagswood in Pontardawe, our very own piece of Welsh countryside that we have exclusive use of, creating a safe haven for our dogs to be dogs! They take part in social play sessions in the paddock, pack walks exploring the woods, scent games in the meadow and time to sniff, run, roll, paddle, chase, get mucky and do all things dogs love to do in the great outdoors. This service is aimed at active, friendly dogs who are well socialised - all dogs are assessed for their suitability to what we offer to ensure they will fit in and that all the dogs will enjoy their experience with us. Coaching/Q&A Sessions with Helen
For first time puppy owners wanting some help/guidance/reassurance, I offer 1:1 sessions where you can book some time with me (via call, zoom or in person) to help with any issues you might be having. I am keen to share my knowledge and experience of being a multiple dog owner (and the mistakes we all make!) and 7 years of working with dogs professionally in both training and care settings, in any way I can to help dogs and their owners have an easier, happier life
Structured Socialisation Sessions
With my own dogs kindly giving their assistance (and being paid generously in treats for their time), I can offer structured socialisation experiences for puppies and dogs needing time around other dogs to build confidence or social skills. Wagswood Members Club
Our customers are welcomed to join our dog club where members will be able to hire the paddock at Wagswood to train or exercise their own dogs. We also hold Socialisation Sessions and organise other dog related events throughout the year.
