Meet Harley! Recently, this beautiful girl came to us feeling a bit under the weather and had totally lost her appetite. πΏ Our amazing vet, Richard, quickly got to work and was able to feel that Harley's intestines were bunched upβa sign that often points to a foreign body.
A βforeign bodyβ can be anything that doesnβt belong in a catβs tummy. Linear foreign bodies, like pieces of string, are particularly sneaky and can cause big problems. π§Ά After putting Harley under general anesthesia, Richard was able to confirm his diagnosis, as Harley had one end of a piece of string wrapped around her tongue! The other end had traveled all the way through her digestive tract to her intestine, causing the bunching Richard had felt during his initial exam.
Our talented team were swiftly able to remove the string, and Harley is now back to her playful self, soaking up the sunshine! βοΈβ¨
Remember, if you ever notice a string hanging out of your catβs mouth or rear-end, DO NOT PULL IT! This can cause serious injury. If you are worried that your cat has ingested a linear foreign obect, please give us a call. Keep any strings and hair ties out of paws' reach, especially when you're not watching. πΎβ€οΈ
