☀️ PLEASE TAKE CARE IN THE HEAT ☀️

With the hot weather continuing, please walk your dog(s) early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler — and on particularly hot days, missing a walk altogether is absolutely okay.

Please make sure your pets have constant access to fresh water, shade and somewhere cool to rest, and never leave a dog in a parked car.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat stroke: excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, weakness or wobbliness, vomiting or diarrhoea, agitation, collapse or becoming unresponsive.

If you suspect heat stroke, act immediately. Move your dog somewhere cool, wet them with cool (not ice-cold) water and use a fan if available. Do not cover them with wet towels, as this can trap heat against the body.

Contact your vet or emergency vet straight away — heat stroke is a medical emergency and every minute matters.

Please share this post. If it helps prevent even one more pet suffering from heat stroke, it’s worth it. 💙🐾

🌟 Meet little Ember…

Newly acquired by her owner, it quickly became clear that something wasn’t right. Ember was quiet, lethargic and not her usual kitten self, so she was brought straight to us for a check-up.

The cause? Severe flea anaemia.

A healthy kitten should have a packed cell volume (PCV) of around 25-28%. Ember’s was just 6%.

Thankfully, Ember had a guardian angel. 🩸❤️

Our wonderful blood donor, Ivy the Dachshund, stepped in to help by donating blood, allowing us to start an emergency transfusion and give Ember the best possible chance.

We’re delighted to say that Ember is now doing well and we’re so pleased with the progress she has made over the past few days. She still has a little way to go, but she’s brighter, eating well and continuing to improve every day 💙🐾

❤️ A little update on our two hand-reared Cane Corso puppies… ❤️

Just over four weeks ago, these tiny angels came into our care at only 3 days old. Since then, they’ve been bottle-fed around the clock, had countless cuddles, and have gone from fitting in the palm of our hands to becoming happy, healthy, chunky little puppies.

Weighing between 500-700g when they arrived, they’ve left us weighing 3.28kg and 4.04kg!!

This morning, they left us to join one of their sisters in a wonderful foster home, where they’ll continue to grow, thrive and, in time, find their forever families. They’ll also have lifetime rescue backup and support, giving them the very best start for the future.

It has been an absolute privilege to play a small part in their journey and watch them grow into the beautiful puppies they are today.

A huge thank you to the entire Swanley Veterinary Clinic team for all their support, and a very special thank you to my husband, Lewis, who has heroically taken on every single night feed since they arrived with us.

We’ll certainly miss these two, but we couldn’t be happier knowing they’re moving on to the next exciting chapter of their lives.

Good luck little ones. We can’t wait to watch you continue to flourish. 🐾🖤

🐶 Meet Ginny 🐶

This gorgeous little lady is Ginny, the much-loved family dog of our Clinical Lead Nurse, Kirstie.

Ginny recently visited us to have a small lump removed from her head under a general anaesthetic. She was an absolute superstar from start to finish! ⭐️ She is now recovering well at home, enjoying plenty of cuddles and well-deserved fuss.

Although many lumps and bumps turn out to be completely harmless, it’s always worth having any new lump checked by your vet. The earlier we assess them, the more options we have if treatment is needed.

🐾 Keep an eye on your pet for any new lumps, bumps or changes in existing ones.
🐾 If you notice anything new, don’t wait—book them in for a check.
🐾 Sometimes all that’s needed is reassurance, but it’s always better to know.

We’re so pleased Ginny is back to her happy self and can’t wait to see her again for happier visits! ❤️
