Only say our commands once. Repetition of commands causes the dog to ignore them!

Most people think a long walk equals a tired dog…

👉 It doesn’t.

If your dog comes home still hyper, pulling, barking or unable to settle — the problem isn’t lack of exercise.

It’s lack of structure and engagement.

At Bays K9 Training, we focus on turning everyday walks into structured training sessions by incorporating basic obedience into play.

This means:

✔ Asking for calm before reward
✔ Practicing recall during play
✔ Building focus around distractions
✔ Creating engagement with the owner
✔ Teaching the dog to switch on and off

The result?

A dog that is not just physically tired…
…but mentally fulfilled, calm and balanced.

Because a dog that uses its brain will always settle better than one that just runs endlessly.

🐾 If you’re struggling with:
• pulling on the lead
• reactivity
• lack of focus
• over-excitement

We can help.

Most dog behaviour problems start at home — not on the walk.

People often ask me: “What tools do I need to train my dog?”

The truth is… the most important tools aren’t fancy gadgets.

They are routine, consistency and leadership‼️

But here are a few simple things every dog owner should have in their daily routine:

1. A few minutes of training every day
You don’t need an hour.
5–10 minutes, once or twice a day, practicing basics like sit, wait, recall and loose lead walking makes a huge difference over time.

2. A clear routine
Dogs thrive on structure.
Feeding times, walks, training and rest should follow a predictable rhythm. When dogs know what to expect, their behaviour improves dramatically.

3. The right rewards
High-value treats or part of their daily food can be used for training. Reward calm focus and good choices.

4. A good lead and collar (or training line)
Simple equipment used correctly and consistently is far more effective than buying new gadgets every month.

5. Calm energy from the owner
Dogs mirror our nervous system.
If you are calm, clear and consistent — they will follow.

6. Natural support when needed
Some dogs benefit from things like flower remedies or calming support, especially during training or behavioural work.

The biggest mistake people make?

Waiting until there is a problem.

Training should start before the barking, pulling or reactivity appear.

A well-trained dog isn’t just obedient —
they’re calmer, more confident and easier to live with.

Most puppy owners are making the same mistake…
and creating problems without even realising it.

Too much freedom.
Not enough structure.
No clear communication.

Your puppy isn’t “naughty” —
they’re just untrained.

And every day you delay proper training, you’re reinforcing behaviours that will be much harder to fix later.

Biting.
Jumping.
Ignoring you.
Pulling on the lead.

This doesn’t fix itself with time — it gets worse.

Good puppy training isn’t about being strict.
It’s about being clear, consistent, and fair.

Start early. Do it properly.
Or pay for it later.

Many owners believe that simply taking their dog out for a walk is enough — but physical exercise alone doesn’t teach dogs how to behave around the world. Socialisation is just as important.

A dog that isn’t properly socialised may struggle with anxiety, reactivity, frustration, or over-excitement when encountering other dogs, people, or environments. Socialisation helps build confidence, emotional balance, and appropriate responses in everyday situations.

Structured group walks are a great way to support this because they allow dogs to:

• Learn calm behaviour around other dogs
• Practice neutrality instead of pulling or reacting
• Build confidence in a guided environment
• Improve focus on their handler
• Experience mental stimulation alongside exercise

It’s important to remember — socialising doesn’t mean letting dogs run up to every dog they see.

Healthy socialisation looks like:
✔ Calm exposure at a comfortable distance
✔ Walking together with clear leadership
✔ Gradual introductions when appropriate
✔ Observing body language and boundaries
✔ Consistency and guidance from the handler

Teaching dogs how to exist calmly in shared spaces creates more balanced, relaxed companions both at home and out in public.

Every dog is different — and training should reflect that.

My 1-to-1 sessions are tailored to your dog’s behaviour, environment and goals.

Common areas I work with:

✔ Reactivity to dogs or people
✔ Lead pulling & barking
✔ Puppy foundations
✔ Confidence building
✔ General obedience

Training takes place in real-life settings — not just controlled environments — so results carry into everyday life.
