Most dog behaviour problems start at home — not on the walk.
People often ask me: “What tools do I need to train my dog?”
The truth is… the most important tools aren’t fancy gadgets.
They are routine, consistency and leadership‼️
But here are a few simple things every dog owner should have in their daily routine:
1. A few minutes of training every day
You don’t need an hour.
5–10 minutes, once or twice a day, practicing basics like sit, wait, recall and loose lead walking makes a huge difference over time.
2. A clear routine
Dogs thrive on structure.
Feeding times, walks, training and rest should follow a predictable rhythm. When dogs know what to expect, their behaviour improves dramatically.
3. The right rewards
High-value treats or part of their daily food can be used for training. Reward calm focus and good choices.
4. A good lead and collar (or training line)
Simple equipment used correctly and consistently is far more effective than buying new gadgets every month.
5. Calm energy from the owner
Dogs mirror our nervous system.
If you are calm, clear and consistent — they will follow.
6. Natural support when needed
Some dogs benefit from things like flower remedies or calming support, especially during training or behavioural work.
The biggest mistake people make?
Waiting until there is a problem.
Training should start before the barking, pulling or reactivity appear.
A well-trained dog isn’t just obedient —
they’re calmer, more confident and easier to live with.
