❤️We had these two gorgeous puppies in last week, to repair their umbilical hernias.
🐾Theoni gave them all the love before their procedure, which they appreciated so much. Both of them recovered beautifully from their surgery.
💭An umbilical hernia is a small lump you may notice on your dogs tummy, around the belly button area. It happens when the muscles in that area don’t fully close after birth, leaving a small gap.
💊This gap can allow a bit of fat, or occasionally part of the intestine, to push through, causing a soft swelling. In many cases, it isn’t painful and may even go away on its own as your puppy grows.
👨🏼⚕️However, some hernias don’t close naturally and may need a simple surgical repair, often done at the same time as neutering, if the timings align. Rarely, the hernia can become firm, painful, or swollen; this would need urgent veterinary attention.
🩺Overall, this is a common condition in puppies, and the prognosis is usually excellent.
