Swaffham Veterinary Centre is a small animal veterinary surgery that was opened by vets Liam Manson, Jon Mills and vet nurse Helen Manning in May 2014. Our aim is to provide a high quality but affordable veterinary service. 🐾

We offer a comprehensive service for you and your pets at our single site purpose designed practice. We have an excellent nursing team of eight fully qualified and experienc

ed veterinary nurses working with six experienced vets and four student nurses.🩺

We offer routine appointments at times to suit you throughout the day, Monday to Saturday, and at all other times our own vets provide a full inpatient service at the practice. 🗓️

We have a spacious, fully equipped operating theatre, supported by digital x-ray and ultrasonography, with comfortable, separate dog and cat wards for hospitalised patients to recover in.🐶🐹

Our nursing team offers nurse clinics covering a wide variety of topics including nutrition and weight management, behaviour and puppy and kitten care.⚖️

We are very proud of our practice and are more than happy to show you around whenever possible.🎉

'Tabby’ refers to a coat pattern, rather than a breed. There are different types of tabby pattern coats, such as a mackerel or spotted, but the true sign of a tabby pattern is the ‘M’ shaped markings on the forehead. Does your cat have this?

😻 Tell us about your tabby cat in the comments and show some love for these beautiful cats! 👇

⭐️It’s Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week⭐️

❤️First of all, what a team we have to celebrate! Between our four receptionist they have a combination of 19 years commitment to our practice.

📞These four lovely humans are often the first friendly voice on the phone and the first warm welcome through the door, offering reassurance and support to both pets and their owners. They manage busy schedules, handle emergencies with calm professionalism and keep the entire practice organised, often all at once.

🙏🏻Their compassion, patience, and dedication make a real difference every single day. We are so grateful for everything they do, because without them, our practice simply wouldn’t run the way it does.

➡️We have Sophie on the right who is winning the award for the longest standing receptionist here, she joined us in February 2015.

⬆️Next we have Olivia at the front, who is our lead receptionist and joined us in August 2023.

⬇️Joanne, stood behind, joined us in August 2023.

⬅️Last but by all means not least, we have Alex on the left. Alex joined us in July 2024.

❤️Please show all your love and appreciation, it will not go a miss.

📣Changes to Pet Travel📣

🇪🇺European Pet Passport Update🇪🇺

📆Prior to the 22nd of April 2026, some dogs were able to travel from the UK to Europe using a European issued pet passport.

✈️Generally, this is where people have a second home and can register with a local European vet to have a passport issued, have rabies vaccinations etc.

❌If your primary residence is in the UK, as of the 22nd of April 2026, all cats, dogs and ferrets, leaving the UK (unless for commercial movements) must have a valid export health certificate. Existing European passports will not be a valid document.

🌍If you are travelling to Europe you are advised to check the entry requirements with the relevant authority in the destination country, and also the DEFRA website.

❤️We had these two gorgeous puppies in last week, to repair their umbilical hernias.

🐾Theoni gave them all the love before their procedure, which they appreciated so much. Both of them recovered beautifully from their surgery.

💭An umbilical hernia is a small lump you may notice on your dogs tummy, around the belly button area. It happens when the muscles in that area don’t fully close after birth, leaving a small gap.

💊This gap can allow a bit of fat, or occasionally part of the intestine, to push through, causing a soft swelling. In many cases, it isn’t painful and may even go away on its own as your puppy grows.

👨🏼‍⚕️However, some hernias don’t close naturally and may need a simple surgical repair, often done at the same time as neutering, if the timings align. Rarely, the hernia can become firm, painful, or swollen; this would need urgent veterinary attention.

🩺Overall, this is a common condition in puppies, and the prognosis is usually excellent.
