This Doitsu Kohaku has a rather pleasing pattern.
The Beni is thick and consistent which contrasts well against the soft Shiroji.

This fish is from Takahashi koi farm, the same breeder as the two Doitsu Showa that we have previously posted.

Takahashi is well known for producing high quality Doitsu Koi which is apparent in the last few fish from him that we have put up on our group.

The Doitsu Kohaku is Nisai, so it still has a lot more development to happen namely being the body that will fill out and the Kiwa will also become more refined.

This fish has been fully quarantined and ready to take now!

Following on from the popularity of yesterdays ‘Show ready Doitsu Showa’ I present to you its sister….

This Nisai has an excellent frame, especially for a Doitsu koi - look at the size of the head!

The Kiwa on this fish is razor sharp, and the Sumi that it has got is of high quality.
There is underlaying Sumi still emerging, that will transform the look of this koi when fully developed.

So which do you prefer, the he finished example, or the dream?

The Importance of Kiwa

Razor sharp Kiwa, especially on doitsu fish really enhances the over all look of the pattern giving it a striking appearance.

An example such as this Kikusui also has excellent lustre which is the overall shine of the koi.

A clean head is also high on the list of the must haves when choosing show grade Kikusui.

With pond windows becoming increasingly popular, varieties like this are a good addition that look just as good from the side as they do from above.

A fun fact about Kikusui is that it is actually a doitsu, metallic Kohaku. Whereas a Yamatonishiki is a doitsu, metallic Sanke.... more to follow on that one!

Super Mango without the price tag!

Saito fish farm needs no introduction when it comes to his Karashigoi lineage - with Marudo x Konishi bloodline it has the genetics to go all of the way. Give this fish heat and Saki Hikari and you will be astounded by the outcome!

Being a smaller breeder, he flies underneath the radar compared to the likes of Sakai and Dainichi etc, however I'm sure you will all agree that this Karashigoi is on par with other breeders examples.

The skin tone of this fish is how I picture a Karashigoi should be, and the body conformation is excellent, with a good head structure too.

This koi is fully quarantined and ready to go now, or we can hold the fish until outside temperatures increase.

Goshiki Magic!

This example is from Aokiya Koi farm who is world renowned for stunning Goshiki and this one is no exception.
We discussed this koi at length whilst in Japan in October as its an unusual type that displays a lot of white ground.

Since being in quarantine, the kuro skin has developed in leaps and bounds but none has gone into the Beni plate - Floating Beni is extremely desirable in a Goshiki.

I wouldn't fancy my chances of buying this koi at Aokiya for £500 if the skin goes black - and its certainly heading that way.

This Koi has finished its three month quarantine procedure and is ready to take now as soon as temperatures outside increase a little!
