If it doesn’t feel right — it probably isn’t.
I heard something today that turned my stomach.
A young, frightened rescue dog — already trying her best to navigate our overwhelming human world — was subjected to harsh, forceful handling in the name of “training.” Equipment used not for safety, but for fear. Pressure applied not to guide, but to control. It left her bruised. Physically, emotionally… and in all likelihood, for a very long time.
And the worst part? Her guardians didn’t know. They were told this was normal. That this is what had to be done to “fix” her. They trusted a “professional.” They were desperate for help. And I don’t blame them — not one bit.
Because here’s the uncomfortable truth:
Dog training and behaviour is completely unregulated.
Anyone can set up shop. Anyone can take your money.
And far too often, our dogs pay the highest price.
Please, please… if something doesn’t feel right — speak up.
If you’re told to do something to your dog that you wouldn’t do to a child, a partner, or even a stranger — it is not okay.
If someone tells you that pain, fear, or intimidation is necessary to teach — it isn’t.
There is a better way.
A kinder, gentler, and far more effective way.
A way that works with your dog, not against them.
A way that builds confidence instead of fear.
That supports relationship instead of control.
You and your dog deserve that.
And if you’re ever unsure — reach out. Ask questions. Seek second opinions.
Your dog’s voice may be small, but it matters deeply. And so does yours.
