🐾 June is Pet Microchipping Month! 🐾

Did you know that a microchip is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help reunite you with your pet if they ever go missing?

A microchip is a permanent form of identification, about the size of a grain of rice, that can be quickly and safely implanted by your veterinary team. If your pet is found, their microchip can be scanned, helping them get back home where they belong.

✅ Quick and safe procedure
✅ Permanent identification
✅ Increases the chances of a happy reunion
✅ A legal requirement for dogs and cats in the UK

Remember: a microchip only works if your contact details are up to date. If you’ve recently moved house or changed your phone number, now is the perfect time to check your pet’s registration details.

Contact our team today to book a microchipping appointment or to update your pet’s information.

Staffie smiles and puppy snuggles from this beaut today! Not your typical staffie colouring...and absolutely gorgeous 🐾
This beautiful fawn and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy visited us for her very first check-up today and was super brave

Some Staffordshire facts you may not know;

1) They were originally nicknamed “nanny dogs” in parts of the UK because many were known for being especially tolerant and people-focused with children in the home (still, supervision and good training always matter with any breed).

2) Their “smile” is a real thing: many Staffies have very expressive facial muscles and a naturally upturned mouth shape, so they often look like they’re grinning—owners commonly notice it in relaxed, happy moments.

3) They’re often surprisingly quiet watchdogs. A lot of Staffordshire Bull Terriers are more likely to greet visitors than to bark an alarm, so they can be less “barky” than people expect from a stocky, tough-looking dog.

4) They can be little heat sponges. Their short coat and muscular build can make them more prone to overheating during warm weather or intense play, especially in humid conditions—so shade, water, and sensible exercise breaks are important.

5) They’re powerful chewers and love “work.” Many Staffies have a strong need to chew and engage their jaws, so enrichment like sturdy chew toys, food puzzles, and structured tug games can make a big difference in behavior and stress levels.

If you suspect your dog has heatstroke, you must act fast, but safely:Move to a cool area: Bring them indoors to an air-conditioned room or find a shaded, breezy spot outside.Apply water: Pour cool (not ice-cold) water over their body. Do not use ice or cover them in wet towels, as this traps heat and can cause dangerous shivering or blood vessel constriction.Encourage air flow: Place a fan on your dog to maximize evaporative cooling.Offer small drinks: Provide fresh, room-temperature water. Do not force them to drink, as this can cause them to choke or inhale water.Contact a Vet: Even if your dog seems to recover, heatstroke can cause internal organ damage that needs immediate medical assessment. Take them to an emergency vet clinic. You can find your nearest clinic using the RCVS Find a Vet register or your local practice.

We had a visit from these three beautiful Maine C**n cats last week, what a treat!

A few Maine C**n facts :
- Maine C**ns are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, and they’re often nicknamed the “gentle giants” because they tend to be sociable and calm.
- Their long, water‑resistant coat and tufted ears were shaped for colder climates—great for fluff, not always great for shedding on your black work trousers!
- They’re known for being quite “chatty”, often with soft chirps and trills rather than constant loud meowing.
- Maine C**ns can be slow to mature, sometimes taking around 3–5 years to fully grow into that impressive size and coat.

Bonjour Arthur!
5.5 months old and already stealing hearts, our very first Pyrenean Sheepdog (Berger des Pyrénées) puppy visit at the practice, and what a treat! That signature shaggy “peek-a-boo” fringe and bright, cheeky grin are classic Pyr energy: alert, curious, and always ready for the next adventure.

A few fun Pyrenean Sheepdog facts:
- Origin: From the French Pyrenees, bred to herd sheep on rugged mountain terrain, so they’re agile, quick-thinking, and seriously athletic.
- Personality: Often described as intelligent, lively, and very bonded to their people. They thrive on having a job (or at least a puzzle toy).
- Coat & grooming: Their coat is typically rough/scruffy or smooth, designed for outdoor work. They’re not usually heavy shedders like some double-coated breeds, but they do need regular brushing to prevent tangles and mats—especially around the ears, armpits, and collar area.
- Training style: They learn fast and can be a bit “too clever,” so short, positive, varied sessions work best.
- Exercise needs: High! Many excel in agility, obedience, scentwork, and herding—Arthur looks like he’ll be a natural, once he gets over a little bit of shyness 💕

Looking for love? ❤️
We have the answer everyone meet Dusty.
This sweet girl is looking for her forever home! 🏠
Dusty was brought in to us in March in a very poor state, she was underweight and severely dehydrated. After some time with us she has blossomed.
Her name was given to her as she loves to roll around the floor and play with her toys (especially when you’re sweeping).
Dusty can be timid at first but she certainly does love a cuddle. 🥰
See comments for videos!
Rehoming fees apply, please contact reception for more details.
Please share to find Dusty a perrrfect home!
