What we do to keep your dog safe in the warmer weather ☀️
•Our van has a maxxfan installed this ensures the dogs have maximum air flow and ventilation - during walks when parked up this is running to help assist removal of the the hot air and then when driving it assists in the input of cold air in - this keeps the dog in the van comfortable by rapidly circling fresh air 💨
•Dogs are not in the van for any longer than necessary 🚐
•Each individual crate has a crate fan on also to help cool and keeps the dogs comfortable 🐶
•We do have cooling mats however some of our dogs have chewed these in the past so they are only used if and when needed 🐕🦺
•Access to water - on warmer days we always carry water and collapsible water bowls to offer the dogs water throughout the walk 💦
•In the warmer weather our large capacity portable shower is filled with cold water, this helps us to soak towels to put in crates for the dogs to lie on if needed, we can also cool the dogs down with this if needed 🚿
•Walks are adapted - if needed times are changed to earlier walks, walks are shorter, we head for shady areas, or if it reaches our cut off temperature and is unsafe walks are changed to home visits, I do not budge on this. ⏰
•If the Dogs have cooling vests/bandanas etc these will be worn 🐕
•Dogs are encouraged to have a more calmer walk, sniffy time in shade - we DO NOT allow play and running/chasing each other is extremely limited on hot days 🥵
•We DO NOT allow any ball time during hot periods! 🥎
• Brachycephalic breeds WILL NOT be walked on the warmer days, we monitor ALL of the dogs, for any signs of discomfort the walk is immediately stopped and we take the dogs back to cool them all off before heading home! 🏠
Although we do everything we can to keep dogs comfortable during hot weather, their safety will always come first. If I feel the temperature is too high, we will adapt accordingly. I would much rather offer a pop in visit or cancel a walk - with no cancellation fees during heat waves - than risk a dog overheating. Heatstroke is extremely serious and not something to be taken lightly.
