We recently had a fab 121 with the lovely Ollie who has celebrated his 1st birthday.

The 121 looked at heel work, focus when other dogs pass, games/ play and recall. Ollie and his family are doing such a great job with his training and it is all paying dividends.

Dogs in their "teenage years" (6mths to 2 / 3 years old) will try and push boundaries and display a few challenges. Keeping high standard for training, adjusting expectations but working to the same standards, and revisiting/ back-training the basics regularly (all of which Ollie is doing amazingly) are key.

This little lad's great personality and love for pleasing his owners have gone from strength to strength and the results are evident.

A lovely meet up with the handsome Obi who is coming on so well, putting all the work from the Sunderland classes (now closed) to work in the real world. Working at Herrington Park at a very busy time this put a lot of Obi's training to the test with some great outcomes. Not seeing Obi for a few months is also another example of seeing huge progress, but where owners might not see it day-to-day, but credit to this team for their hard work. The long line was used to support good decisions, his recall was also really sharp, building up a bit of play and then a focus on heel work. This very young dog is full of energy and he is able to put this to good use with mini training sessions on walks. Another amazing team, working and learning together. Well done.

We met up with the lovely Freya in Chopwell Woods, its been about a year since we last saw Freya at our Newcastle classes (now closed), but what an exciting years it's been with their training continuing to a very good standard. Lerchers are obviously very good at running and training recalls at speed is very hard, however Freya's recall is outstanding, where she turns on a six-pence coming back from a range of distractions. We then adapted the training that Freya and her Mum have used for recall, into focus around dogs, identifying that she may have issues reading other dog's body language and deciding whether they are a threat. This was incorporated with the Kaizen dogs on a pack walk. I'm really confident that this amazing team will see the great results we saw in our training session, which just involves being consistent and taking things slowly around dog interactions, on different adventures. Great work from this team.

Our 121 with the gorgeous Arthur was another case (as with all of our 121s at the moment) of working with a highly training pet dog, who just needed a new set of eyes to look at a few things to tighten up. These included focus around dogs, which started off with an amazing play session with Arthur, showing off all the play that he already gets with his family and putting it in a different situation. This then developed to working on play around the Kaizen dogs which Arthur did with ease. Then to make things harder, we then took him to a more busy environment and calmed things down using food to support focus and chilling out as dogs pass, again Arthur achieved all challenges. Amazing work from all involved, demonstrating how clever this young lad is.

It was great to catch up with Teddy after about 6 months, where in our 1st 121 we focused mainly on things at home and in walks in the local area. This 121 was in Barnes Park, dealing with a lot of other distractions, including walking around with the 4 x Kaizen Dogs. The progress this pup has made since our last visit was amazing, however I think this is hard to see when we walk our dogs day in day out, as the improvements are relatively small day to day. His dedicated owner is doing an amazing job with him, with the key outcome of our meeting was to work on focus around other dogs, going to different locations where Teddy might not feel as confident (which supports training) and the use of the long line in safe environments to support Teddy making good choices. Great work to this team, excited to see how the next 6 months go.

Ace absolutely Aced our recent 121, where we focused on; a play session, followed by some recall games and then worked on heel work and focus around other dogs.

The picture doesn't quite demonstrate how big and full of muscle this young lad is and turning his energy into something positive, saw some great results. His fantastic family are also doing a great job with all of his training and thank you for the lovely review that was left on the FB page.

Our recent 121 with the amazing Georgie looked at a really well trained pup and just focused on some in house routines to ensure she had clear instructions/ expectations in different situations. Her fantastic family are doing a great job with her and we were just there to look at different situations with a new set of eyes, recommending a lead and collar to support adapting the new house routines. Well done everyone.

Get asked what I feed my dogs all the time. Here's what's on tonight's menu. I generally add dog friendly stuff that's in the fridge/ cupboards/ that I've cooked for myself and because I've been shopping at the weekend it looks quite colourful, however by Friday it's not as interesting😂.

Love testing out healthy ingredients with the dogs. Everything went down well tonight with them all, except Milly found her blueberries and left them, however Twiggy pinched them.

Raw food isn't for everyone and you need to get the right; protein, bone and offal mix, but it works for us as the older dogs have allergies. Also allows me to see what's in their food as some kibble seemed to also negatively impact their behaviour. Far from being an expert dog nutritionist but I do take an interest in learning about it.

Feeding raw requires: a lot of freezer space, being organised with defrosting and I have a kitchen counter allocated only for dog food. I also wash my hands throughly after handling anything in contact with their bowls/ food, and sanitizer counters/ space after prepping every meal.

We recently joined Wolf Instinct Dog Training to try a new sport - mantrailing. This involved meeting at Beamish Woods and Andy our trainer took us through the theory and the basics for our first session of mantrailing. We then had the opportunity to follow the more experienced dogs. I worked Rosie for this session which started with quick searches behind trees gradually increasing the search to be what I would consider a "canny distance" out of sight. It was amazing to see the dogs natural ability and instincts kick in and put to good use. This is an amazing sport for all dogs breeds, in our class there was Rosie (labradoodle), German Shepherd, Mali cross, Mali, staffie cross and a dachshund and the dogs all had amazing results finding the people they were scenting. Would definitely recommend everyone getting in touch with Andy to book in, great learning experience for both dog and handler.

Another 121 this weekend involved meeting the gorgeous Bronson and his dedicated family. This super clever young staffie was a credit to the hard work his owners have already put in. We were there to just tighten a few things up which included:
- chilling out in the house/ switching off from constant working/ playing
- reducing attention seeking behaviour/ more independence
- focus on his owners when outside
- playing and games
- remaining in the sit while dogs and people approach.

This enthusiastic young pup took on all the challenges that were set/ adapted to suite his needs and aced them. Using his brain/ nose and energy productively to produce some great results.

With the hard work and dedication from his family, I'm excited to see what the next few months bring.

The Kaizen Dogs had a pack walk/ meet up with the lovely Rhea who only found her forever home in August and in that short time period her amazing new-owner has worked tirelessly to achieve some amazing results. The progress they've made with focus around dogs and remaining in the sit while dogs go past blew my mind today, a tremendous achievement from the last visit we had. We worked today on pulling/ heel work and walking along side the pack, which went really well.

Walk location was Hawthorne Dene just near Dalton Park and the dogs had fun on the beach at the half way/ turn back point, so much so they've all been asleep nearly for the rest of the day. A great adventure with some great results.

Well done to this amazing team.
