A registered Charity, SHUA now operates as a Sanctuary for over 100 permanent feline residents

These 4 little uns were dumped on the side of the road in Thornhill thankfully a member of the public caught them. They have been vet checked and have eye cream etc they are being isolated just in case but they are improving, chasing each other playing and living a fuss. More details will follow

Only yesterday 4 little ones came in dumped on the side of the road in Thornhill thankfully the lady stopped on her way to work and caught them another day and they wouldn't have survived here's 1 of them 😢

We have our SHUA Charity Shop on high street and have some gorgeous items here for sale to help these little uns with vets treatment etc.

Hi we need reiterate what we are, due to the many rescues that we have helped with over the years we have over 70 long term residents who sadly we have been unable to home because they aren't cute and cuddly they have behaviour or medical issues. Therefore we for the last few years became a sanctuary not a rescue centre although we still assist in very urgent cases.

We are happy to offer help support & advise but we literally have no spaces left. We aren't a rehoming centre we aren't a I need to get rid of my cat place would you do the same to your child if they are unsettled/naughty. No you wouldn't these animals have feelings to with everywhere full we really need people to help us help them and try to be more proactive until spaces come available like making a stray an outdoor home somewhere they will be safe & warm

Sorry we have been quiet, as you know we have a lot going on at present with needing to sell up and find a new location. The shop has been closed while we try to get on top of the donations etc,

We can't thank you all enough for your continued support we need to raise some much needed funds to help our 70 long term residents with food litter and vet appointments so will be doing a trial over the next few weeks of selling some items on this page. If you live in Barry they can be collected or delivered or we can post to you with the postage charge.

Our Story

A registered Charity, SHUA is a Safe House for Unwanted Animals.

SHUA is a Cat Sanctuary to over 100 resident cats. We never allow a healthy animal to be put to sleep, hence the population currently at our sanctuary. Most of our residents are feral, stray’s or have costly health issues attached to them rendering them unable for adoption.

We operate a Charity Shop in 97 High St, Barry to help finance the Sanctuary which includes: Vet bills, food, heated pods, cleaning, maintenance, specialised medication, flea & worm treatments, Scratch post / toys, Biffa Waste disposal services - the list id endless.

We solely rely on these donations and a handful of volunteers to operate our Charity and keep the Sanctuary running.
