Emergency Squish pads fitted to a lami case yesterday. Hopefully give him some relief. X-rays show rotation in both front feet.

Not the prettiest of jobs. But minimising his discomfort was priority over taking more time to make them beautiful.

📢 Price Update – Smoking Steel Shoe Co.

I’ve held my prices steady since 2023, but with the continued rise in running costs, it’s now becoming unsustainable to keep them where they are.

To put things into perspective — back in 2007 I was charging £80 a set.
With inflation alone, that figure should now be around £139.

Since 2007, the cost of running a farriery business has increased significantly:

• Tool prices have more than quadrupled
• FRC registration fees have risen from around £100 to over £500

More recently, in the last 12 months alone, business costs have continued to rise — including accountancy, banking fees, vehicle servicing, and general operating expenses.

On top of this, truck insurance was £350 in 2024 and is now over £700, with no clear explanation for the increase.

After a lot of consideration, prices will increase from 16th February and will be as follows:

🔨 New Prices

• Set of shoes — £100
• Two front shoes, two hind trim — £75
• Trim all round — £40
• Heavy horse trim — £70
• Remedial work — £100 per hour + materials

➡️ Please note:
• We do not charge travel costs
• We do not charge for lost shoes

I understand that some of you may choose to look elsewhere for alternative farriery services — and I completely understand.

I want to thank all my customers for the continued support — it genuinely means a lot. These changes allow me to continue providing reliable, professional farriery while maintaining the standard you expect from Smoking Steel Shoe Co.
