Did you know dogs can’t sweat? That’s why they are a higher risk of death from heat stroke than many other species. Panting is how they evaporate water from their lungs and their paws and nose can release a bit of heat. This is why we don’t EVER walk when temperatures are high, increasing their internal & external heat is just too dangerous.
What we do when it’s hot is; provide cool shady areas in the garden, a water bath for those who like to dip, use the sprinkler in the garden, cool mats inside, frozen treats, kongs and licky mats, monitor closely and sponge down or shower any dogs excessively panting and always plenty of fresh cool water.
