So many dogs play with tennis balls, yet they are not the best choice for our dogs.
Tennis balls are a leading cause of dental abrasion. The felt coating acts like sandpaper, stripping the enamel away. It is designed for sport not oral consumption, often manufactured with toxic dyes and chemical compounds that a dog can ingest whilst chewing.
Tennis balls are a potentially fatal choking hazard for dogs. The size and soft consistency of a tennis ball means dogs can easily swallow or crush them in their mouths so they wedge deeply into the throat.
Safer alternatives are rubber or plastic balls designed for dogs.
I only play with balls if there is a rope attached. The rope can provide a handle to pull a lodged ball from a dog's throat if need be.
Always check toys for wear and tear before use, nothing is indestructible.πβπ¦Ίπ₯
