💫 Summer holidays! Off to a great start 😁💫
Hope you’re all having a good time, myself and my young assistant have been enjoying seeing all of our holiday friends (chickens, cats, rabbits, guineas, a little tortoise pal!) and our usual dog buddies too.

If you’re going to need pet care towards the end of August and during September, get the bookings in soon as space is limited!

Enjoy all of the cute pics, and yes- the head tickle is a tried and tested photo method 😉

If you're walking through grassy or wooded areas this summer, be tick aware and make sure you know how to avoid ticks and remove them if they bite. 👇

Just a few cutie pie photos for you! Happy Sunday 🐾 💓

This week’s pals 💓💫
We did the best we could in the mega heat; lots of home visits, water refills, sitting by the fan, early walks, cooling mats…

Thinking of you all, it’s not easy looking after furry pets in conditions like this! I hope your rabbits and guineas are safe too, moving their hutch into a garage temporarily or bringing them indoors might help if you don’t have a shaded area for their hutch. (Or create shade with parasols, umbrellas, pegged up sheets etc).

If you can’t put your hutch in the shade, you can shade your hutch using umbrellas, parasols, blankets or towels propped up. (Just be sure you’re not restricting air flow). 💞

☀️🐰 STAY SAFE IN THE HEAT 🐹☀️
Rabbits and guinea pigs can become poorly very quickly in warm weather, so it’s important to help keep them cool and comfortable during hot days 💚
❄️ Provide frozen water bottles wrapped in towels
🌳 Keep hutches and runs in shaded, well-ventilated areas
💧 Ensure fresh, cool water is always available
🥬 Offer water-rich veggies like cucumber and lettuce
☀️ Bring indoors during extreme heat if possible
🚫 Never place hutches in direct sunlight
Signs of heatstroke can include: ⚠️ Panting
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
If you are worried your pet may be overheating, contact your vet immediately ☎️
Keep your small furries safe, cool and comfortable this summer 🐾💚

Grass seeds might look small and harmless, but in the wrong place, they can cause a great deal of trouble. If your dog has been running in long grass, always check them for grass seeds afterwards, and remove any that you find, especially in between the toes, round their armpits and near their eyes. If you find one stuck, or a wound/swelling that looks like it could contain one, book an appointment with your vet. It’s important to remove grass seeds quickly, because their pointy shape enables them to pierce through skin, enter the body and travel around causing problems such as infections and abscesses.

🔸SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR🔸
Grass seeds often cause problems in the ears, between toes, behind eyelids, up their nose and sometimes, under the skin and around the body.

EARS: If your dog has a grass seed in their ear, you may notice them excessively scratching it, or shaking their head.

EYES: If your dog has a grass seed stuck behind their eyelid, they are likely to develop a painful, weepy or sore eye.

PAWS: If your dog has a grass seed between their toes, they might excessively lick or nibble their paw, and overtime you might notice saliva staining and a swelling.

NOSE: If a grass seed has gone up your dog’s nose, you might notice sudden or violent sneezing as well as gagging or coughing.

ELSEWHERE: A grass seed travelling around the body is likely to cause vague symptoms such as a non-healing wound, low energy and an intermittent high temperature.
