🌟Week 2 of Trail Hunt International🌟
Started by working on increasing drive for the scent, then did an entertaining excercise involving 2 women, 2 dogs one man and some ropes 😂😂 and finally introducing turning in the trail.
🐶 everyone was amazing and did brilliantly!! Well done 😀🦮😀

🐶 Dogs' Incredible Sense of Smell 🐾

Did you know that a dog's nose is absolutely incredible? Their sense of smell is like what sight is to us humans. Here are some fascinating facts about their superior olfactory abilities:

👃 The moist tip of their nose captures smells carried by the wind, allowing them to pick up scents from the air.
👃 Each nostril can smell separately, making it easier for them to locate the source of a smell.
👃 They have a staggering 300 plus million smell receptors in their nose, compared to humans who only have 5 million.
👃 Dogs exhale air through slits on the sides of their nose, ensuring that incoming scents are not polluted.
👃 Their olfactory cortex, the part of the brain that processes smells, is about 40 times larger than ours.
👃 Dogs also have a special olfactory system called the vomeronasal organ, which detects hormones from other animals and humans. This allows them to sense things like our emotions, as well as conditions like cancer or pregnancy.

Have you ever experienced "inattentional deafness" or being so focused on something that you temporarily ignore sounds? Humans can experience this phenomenon when concentrating on visual tasks. Similarly, when dogs are fully engaged in sniffing, they may not hear you right away. So, be patient and wait for them to finish "reading their favorite book" before calling them over. Remember, they're not ignoring you on purpose!

Let's appreciate and marvel at the incredible sense of smell that dogs possess. They truly are remarkable creatures! 🐾❤️

🦮Trail Hunt International week 2 🦮
We started by doing exercises to reinforce the scent onto the dogs and then moved on to laying trails and teaching the dogs to follow the odour and use turns in the trail.
Both dogs and handlers were FANTASTIC!! Great work 😀🐶😀

☀️It’s still sunny☀️😀☀️
Second week of scent detection teaching the dogs how to search, around, high and low and on a variety of different search objects. We also concentrated on the dogs individual indications and decreased the size of the odour they were looking for.
A really interesting session with two completely different dogs 😀🐶😀🦮

We spent a lot of today really reinforcing the odour with the dogs, making them realise they get a reward for following the scent.

Scent detection 10am - 12pm

🐾Scent detection is a low impact activity teaching the dogs to search and find a specific scent.

Great for all dogs but especially those with limited mobility or are older and less mobile.

A great skill that will mentally tire your dog for those hot or wet days or if they are on limited excercise.

Good for anxious or dogs with behaviour issues. Small classes, loads of space and dogs worked as individuals and do not interact.

Reward based training.

Or just great fun to do with your dog to strengthen your bond and add a new activity to do together. Course includes 3 weeks learning the skills and week 4 is a fun trial 🏆
