EDIT - wasn’t going to add the video of her the 5 mins before she passed but decided to share
It’s with the deepest sadness to report that our beautiful Mags passed very suddenly today with no warning at all. She was happy bouncing round her aviary this morning, ate her usual breakfast and was her playful self while it was being dished up. Within the hour she was fluffed up on her perch, so I brought her inside and checked her over. Trying to consider all possibilities I came up with nothing of immediate concern. Other than being a little fluffed up there were no other signs of illness at all, eyes and nairs clear, no respiratory symptoms such as agonal breathing or signs of respiratory distress, she was a healthy weight and feathers were in good condition, no evidence of parasites (stools were looking normal no weight issues, no smell etc). Within 10 minutes she appeared to have what we can only assume was a cardiac event, going by how fast it happened and with little to no warning. We are beyond devastated, as you can imagine. Mags had really become such a lovely member of the family. She was originally found after being attacked by other magpies which could in itself indicate that they had sensed of some kind of genetic disorder or heart defect.
RIP Mags you will be sorely missed 💔
