Tick season is here!!

It's time to check your dogs regularly after walks especially if they’ve been walking in long grass, woodland areas, or parks.

Ticks are small parasites that attach to your dog’s and cat's skin and feed on blood. They can sometimes carry diseases, so spotting and removing them quickly is important.

Common places to check:
• Around the ears
• Under collars
• Between pads
• Around the eyes
• Tummy and armpits

Ticks can feel like small lumps on the skin, so take a few minutes to give your dog a once over after being outdoors.

If you do find a tick, use a proper tick removal tool and avoid squeezing it.

Stay safe and enjoy your walks!

HOT HOT HOT 🔥 🥵
The salon is back open as usual tomorrow. We now have air con in the salon so we can keep your pooches nice and cool. Please feel free to park outside the back gates when dropping your pooches in for their appointments so they don't walk on the hot surface for longer than needed. Please also think about cooling your car down before popping your pooches in or using cold damp towels or cooling matts whilst they travel its no problem if they come in damp. Stay safe and keep our beautiful pooches in the cool 😎 🐕🐾🐩🐶🐕‍🦺🌭

We are often asked/told that short haired dogs dont need Professional Grooming or what can we do with short haired dogs???
Well the beautiful Daena is one of our regular clients who benefits from being bathed in a de-shedding shampoo followed by removing a huge amount of dead hair and her humans are grateful for not having to hover at home as often 😉😂. See you again soon Miss Daena. 🐾🐾🐾

Why is important to keep your dogs nails trimmed?

🐾 Nail Length & Its Impact on Canine Biomechanics

Have you checked your dog’s nails recently?

Long nails do more than just click on the floor—they can significantly influence your dog’s posture, movement, and overall musculoskeletal health.

When nails are left untrimmed, they don’t just affect the paw—they can impact the entire kinetic chain.

Why Nail Length Matters

🟢 Alters Joint Angulation & Posture

Overgrown nails force the toe pads upward and backward (caudally), shifting weight proximally within the limb.

This disrupts normal limb loading and can lead to:

* Postural adaptations
* Altered joint alignment
* Compensatory movement patterns

📖 Reference: Zink & Van D**e (2013), Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

🟢 Impacts Gait & Reduces Stability

If nails contact the ground during stance, they can:

* Cause toe splaying
* Reduce effective ground contact
* Compromise traction

This may increase the risk of:

* Slipping
* Soft tissue strain (tendons/ligaments)
* Secondary compensatory issues

📖 References: Touch Animal Rehabilitation (2020); Canine Body Balance (2021)

🟢 Increases Musculoskeletal Load

Chronic postural change can contribute to:

* Myofascial tension
* Uneven joint loading
* Increased risk of conditions like Osteoarthritis in dogs

Particularly relevant in:

* Senior dogs
* Sporting/working dogs
* Orthopaedic cases

📖 Reference: Veterinary Clinics of North America (2020)

✅ Quick Nail Check

Ask yourself:

✔️ Do the nails touch the ground when your dog is standing?
✔️ Can you hear them tapping on hard flooring?

If yes—it’s time for a trim.

🟢 Clinical Insight

Nail length is often overlooked, yet it’s one of the simplest modifiable factors affecting biomechanics.

In practice, I frequently see improvements in:

* Postural alignment
* Limb loading symmetry
* Movement quality

…simply by addressing nail length alongside soft tissue work.

🟢 When to Seek Help

If your dog:

* Is reluctant to walk on certain surfaces
* Slips frequently
* Shows subtle gait changes
* Dislikes nail trimming

Support from a qualified professional (groomer, vet, or therapist) can make a significant difference.

Congratulations to Phoebe!!

She completed her puppy introduction course.

The aim for the course is to introduce your puppy to salon equipment to include tables, brushing, combing, clippers, nail clippers, bath, dryers and handling in a positive way.

Whilst your dog naturally socialises with the team and other dogs in the salon of different ages and sizes and has positive experiences away from yourself (the owner).

It is lovely to see how happy Phoebe is to come into the salon after a bit of a worried start, her confidence around other dogs has grown and she is still the same bundle of energy. 💛

We had the absolute pleasure of grooming Leo this week, what a lovely affectionate cat he is! He also has the most amazing eyes.

The groom included thorough brushing and a tidy-up, resulting in a much healthier and softer coat.
A great transformation and, most importantly, a comfortable and happy cat at the end of his visit.
