Stop and think 🤔
It only takes a split second, and it's gone. Take a look at this photo, and then you do it out on a cliff top, etc, and see the difference.

Please keep dogs on a lead on cliff paths as they don’t always see the dangers and will carry on running 🐕🥲.

These two photos were taken at the same time - one is from an adult’s eye line and the other one from a medium-sized dog’s eye line….

Stop and think, keep it on a lead.

Please help and take a look at this petition here.

Sometimes we need to do what’s necessary to keep our dogs healthy or safe. But handling, training, connection to the lead should be done without exerting the power we have over an animal when we have the choice.

Just because something is smaller, weaker or thinks differently to us, doesn’t mean we should use that to our advantage. Because the more gentleness you can practice, the greatest power you really have.

KITTEN SEASON HAS BEGUN!!!!

“This time of year, open all the plastic bags, all the cardboard boxes.

When you see by the road, a bag with something inside, don’t ride on it but please stop to check the contents.

Open your ears and eyes, at the edge of the ditches, bins, alleyways, whether in town or in the countryside.”

Dont think that someone else will do it. You are “someone.” Their lives depend on you.

🐎Horses and dogs 🐕‍🦺

We often don't think of our lovable companions as predators or prey, but by nature, dogs are predators and horses are prey animals, and unfortunately, sometimes these instincts can take over and result in undesirable behaviours, such as chasing or fleeing. This can be distressing for both animals and handlers, and in the worst-case scenario, can be fatal.

Here is some of our advice for equestrians and dog walkers

Top tips for horse owners
🐴Always slow to a walk pass dogs.
🐴Communicate with the owner if they have not seen you or call out for an owner if a dog is loose or unaccompanied.
🐴If necessary, stop to allow the owner to put their dog on a lead.
🐴Give dogs a wide berth so they do not feel threatened.
🐴Always wear hi vis to enable other route users to see you more easily.
🐴Be nice and say hi.

Top tips for dog owners
🐶Always keep your dog on a lead or in sight.
🐶Be confident your dog will return on command.
🐶Make sure your dog does not stray from the path or area where you have right of access.
🐶Introduce your dog to horses and train them to maintain calm around horses.
🐶Don’t allow your dog to jump up at the horse.
🐶If you’re not sure how your dog will react around horses, keep them on a lead and ask them to sit and stay while the horse passes.
🐶Be nice and say hi.

The Bridlington & Filey Coastguard teams were called out yesterday (Saturday 8 February), following a report of a dog over the cliff near Sewerby Cricket Club. The dog was found by the team approximately 15 feet down a cliff on a precarious ledge that was crumbling as the team prepared to set up a rope rescue system.

A technical rope setup was quickly constructed, but just before the technician could deploy down the cliff, the dog began to move and was soon out of sight from the edge safety officer (ESO). The technician proceeded to the ledge and continued down the steep chalk cliffs, only to discover that the dog had succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fall and was found deceased at the bottom.

This is a heartbreaking outcome for both the owners and the team, who always strive for a positive resolution, but unfortunately, this was not possible this time.

This marks the third incident this year for the Bridlington team involving dogs that have not survived. It serves as an important reminder to always keep dogs on a lead, especially near cliff edges, when walking along the coast.

As always, be respectful in the comments as accidents can happen to anyone. In a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
