The steel frame is now complete on our School expansion project at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy. All installed on programme thanks to the team efforts of Wood Goldstraw Yorath Architects, C2C Consulting and Interclass construction.

It's always rewarding to see the steel frame complete and the anticipation of the building envelope to follow on shortly.

What a fantastic result from the local Endon High School team to win the National First Lego League and IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) competition to secure the opportunity to represent the UK in the international Championship in Mexico in May 2026.

STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is hugely important to the built environment and associated career pathways and there is a huge void in candidates in this field in the UK.

Competitions like this highlight and promote the importance of STEM education and also what outstanding young talent we have in the UK, and Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, that can be future contributors to the built environment and associated sectors.

All at Wood Goldstraw Yorath Architects would like to wish the Endon High School team the very best of luck in their quest to take on the world stage and their fundraising to enable the team to attend to represent the UK, and Stoke-on-Trent.

Greenbelt Approval: We have today received planning approval for a new guest annex serving an existing cottage in the Staffordshire Greenbelt. We were able to demonstrate to the local authority that the addition would not introduce any greater impact upon the openness of the Greenbelt and would in fact improve the quality and contribution of the site thanks to the removal of a dilapidated outbuilding. The simple agricultural aesthetic also helped the proposals over that all important planning line. Great start to the week!!

Missed opportunity: a few years ago now we obtained planning permission on behalf of our client for 9 executive apartments in Trentham. Located near to the local hospital, on top of local transport links and with far reaching views to the rear, agents were telling our client it was ideal. But sadly circumstances meant our client could not build out the scheme, and the site was sold on to another developer who put 6 standard town houses on it…..
we are disappointed every time we drive past 😞

Not all projects make it, and this one in particular is a real shame. The ‘Bottle Kiln Facade’ concept fronting steelite’s expansion would have given a real lift to Middleport roundabout.

Our Caroline Leadbeater is undertaking the 28 miles running challenge for Alzheimer's Research UK. A cruel disease that affects numerous people and their families in the UK, and one that has personal significance to Caroline.
