Why aren’t foster carers treated like professionals… when they already are?

At Evergreen, our carers are part of the professional team around the child. They have professional email accounts, attend and contribute to meetings, help shape care planning, and receive ongoing therapeutic training to support children with complex needs.

We also believe professional carers deserve professional pay and proper support — including regular respite to prevent burnout.

When carers are respected, supported, and valued, children thrive.

🚨As part of fostering fortnight we are exploring the reasons that it is hard to retain Foster Carers.

Many carers say that they don’t have regular breaks and they become burnt out and too tired to continue. They are committed to fostering but after receiving little or no support, they simply can’t go on. This is the hardest decision they will make.

Evergreen knows how regular breaks can support both the carer and the child, so we provide 62 nights per year physical respite with a consistent carer.
Because of this, our carers can stay refreshed, calm and they keep the energy until the child reaches 18.
