🌿 Want to give your cat fresh air without risking them getting lost? For cats with dementia, outdoor safety is EVERYTHING 🐾💛

Here are safe ways to let them enjoy the outdoors:

🏠 Secure spaces
• Fully enclosed catio or pen
• Window box for safe fresh air
• Enclosed tunnels from house to catio

🧱 Fence upgrades
• Cat-proof toppers (rollers/angled)
• Inward-angled mesh netting
• Block ALL gaps at ground level

🌿 Safer garden
• Keep access low (no high climbs)
• Remove toxic plants
• Add visual cues to guide them home

🦺 Supervised time
• Harness & lead (if trained)
• Enclosed pet stroller for safe exploring

💡 A secure space = freedom without fear. Your cat can still enjoy the world—safely.

Fantasipaws Sebastian aka Nigel has been showing himself ‘purrfectly’ today at a Disney themed FIFE Show! His hoomans, Anna and Fred, threw themselves into the theme with Nige’s pen being transformed into the Tangled castle, complete with Pascal🦎 the Chameleon! How fab is that!

And the icing on the cake? Nige only got nominated for Best in Show! 🎉😻

Why do cats hunt even after being fed? 🐈 Our domesticated pet cats are instinctive, solitary hunters just like their wild ancestors. But success is far from guaranteed, with fewer than half of hunting attempts being successful. It also requires a lot of energy, so waiting until they are hungry would be a poor survival strategy.

Instead, cats are opportunistic predators – cues such as movement, rustling sounds, or scent can trigger their predatory behaviour.

Hunger does increase the likelihood of initiating and persisting in a successful hunt. Whether a cat eats what they catch also depends on the availability alternative food.

Now you know that when your cat hunts, it is a deeply ingrained behavioural system shaped by evolution where opportunity, not appetite alone, determines action. Try playing with your cat to help give an alternative outlet for predatory behaviour and use up some energy! 🐾

As both Merida and Elinor were named after the Scottish characters from Disney’s Brave, they thought it was only right to show their support for the Scotland football team this evening! 😻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The girls have swapped their cat trees for the terraces, donned their Scotland shirts, and are ready to roar the team on from kick-off! 🐾⚽

So come on Scotland — you can do it! We’re right behind you all the way! 💙🤍

Take this quick checklist with you to get the best support for your feline friend:

📋 What to share
• Changes in sleep patterns
• Confusion or getting “lost”
• Clingy or withdrawn behaviour
• Litter box accidents
• Night-time crying or howling

💊 What to ask
• Could medication help?
• Is a brain-health diet worth trying?
• Could pain or arthritis be a factor?
• Are calming supplements an option?

🧪 Tests to consider
• Blood panel
• Blood pressure check
• Urine test

💡 The more detail you provide, the better your vet can tailor care to keep your cat comfortable and supported.
