Teddy🤍
Unfortunately, little Teddy had luxated his hip during a play accident🥹
Hip luxation, also known as hip dislocation, happens when the ball-shaped top of the thigh bone (femoral head) comes out of its socket in the pelvis (acetabulum). When the hip is luxated, it can cause a lot of pain and make it impossible to move the leg normally.
Teddys hip was attempted to be put back in place using the closed method which involves manipulating the leg and hip joint externally without surgery to relocate the femoral head back into the acetabulum, this method was unsuccessful and so Teddy needed surgery to have this put back in the correct place.
Our Veterinary Surgeon, Ondrej, performed a tricky procedure to secure everything back in place to ensure this does not happen again for poor Teddy, if this surgery had failed Teddy would have had to have femoral head and neck excision surgery. This surgery involves a more invasive surgical procedure where the head and neck of the femur are removed, after this the body creates a "false joint" made of scar tissue, which allows the surrounding muscles to support the limb.
The surgery was very successful and Teddy was such a brave boy throughout everything, he was on restricted exercise for a while whilst he was recovering, he has now been fully signed off and is doing really well🥰
