Did you know that our appointments are 20 minutes as standard?

At Orchard House veterinary practice we offer our clients longer consultations than the industry standard. We do this to give our vets ample opportunity to properly understand and discuss the health concerns of our clients and their pets.

The benefits of a 20-minute appointment:
🐾 More time to discuss your pet's concerns
🐾 A more personal service
🐾 A more relaxed appointment

Not only are our veterinary consultations up to 20-minutes, but also our veterinary nurse consultations!

🐱Cat flu is widespread, debilitating & highly contagious.⚠️

Cases are seen frequently in unvaccinated cats due to the virus being spread by direct or indirect contact with infected cats, which means your cat can catch it from an area an infected cat has explored.

The best way to protect your pet is by vaccinating them every year. This not only protects them, but also decreases the spread of disease. Check with your vet today if your cat’s vaccinations are up to date.

🐶Parvovirus is widespread, life-threatening & highly contagious.⚠️

Cases are seen frequently in unvaccinated dogs due to the ability of the virus to survive in the environment for over a year with resistance to commonly used disinfectants and freezing temperatures.

The best way to protect your dog is with regular vaccinations throughout their life. Unvaccinated dogs are at risk and it is usually fatal without intensive treatment. Check with your vet today if your dog’s vaccinations are up to date.

✅ Pet immunisation awareness month✅

Did you know everyday adventures put your dog at risk of disease?

These are generally difficult to treat, can be life-threatening and some can even affect humans.

Vaccinations throughout life are important for the ongoing protection of your dog against life-threatening illnesses such as parvovirus. Some vaccines are required yearly to stay protected such as leptospirosis and contagious canine cough (aka kennel cough).

Unvaccinated dogs are not only at higher risk of catching diseases, they're also more likely to pass them on to other dogs.

🐾 Puppy Alert! 🐾

We had an adorable visit today from a bundle of Border Terrier puppies — and our hearts are still melting! 😍💕

These sweet little fluffballs came in for their first health check, and they were absolute stars. Full of energy, wagging tails, and those classic curious terrier expressions, they charmed every member of the team (and maybe stole a few cuddles too!).

Border Terriers are known for being friendly, intelligent, and full of character — and this litter certainly didn’t disappoint! It’s always a joy to be part of the first step in a puppy’s lifelong healthcare journey. 🐶🩺💖

If you’ve recently welcomed a new puppy into your family, don’t forget to book in for their initial checkup — early visits help get them started on the right paw! 🐾

🐾 First Puppy Visit! 🐾

We had a very special (and very cute) visitor at the practice today — meet our newest little patient on their very first vet visit! Flora🐶💕

Flora was brave, curious, and full of wiggles — stealing hearts the moment they walked through the door. First check-ups are so important, and this little one passed with flying colours! 🩺✅

It’s such a joy to be part of the start of a puppy’s journey — from vaccinations and microchipping to tips on diet and behaviour, we’re here every step of the way. And of course… there were plenty of cuddles too! 💖

If you’ve just welcomed a new furry family member, don’t forget to book their first check-up. We love meeting new paws! 🐾

Hannie was investigating in a hedgerow recently when she suddenly started shaking her head. This persisted for a few hours, and Hannie seemed to be quite bothered by something in her ear.

Hannah saw Hannie at our Stocksfield surgery and to her surprise, during an ear examination under sedation, Hannah pulled out a moth from Hannies ear!!

We can imagine that was quite uncomfortable, but thankfully Hannie is all better now and moth free!

In July, we saw three adder bite cases. These were all in the North Tyne area, around Kielder forest and wark forest areas.

Please be vigilant between April and August as this is when adders are at their most active. If you suspect your pet has been bitten by an adder it is important to call us as soon as possible.

All of our surgeries are an anti-venom stockist!
