A shameless plug……..One of my lovely customers has started making and selling dog bandanas to go on dog collars. Various sizes. They really are great quality. I have some samples in my grooming room which you’re welcome to buy next time you’re in for a groom appointment but otherwise please have a look and support a new local business by checking out dandy.goose on Instagram and her Etsy shop DandyGoose.
You can buy direct from Caroline and she can also make to order if you have a special theme or occasion. 🐾😘

‼️ PLEASE READ ‼️

The devastating news has just been announced that the UK total number of deaths due to Coronavirus so far has risen sharply from 21,678 to 26,097 as those in care homes and the community were included for the first time.

This news has come in minutes after receiving another message asking if I’m reopening because some grooming establishments in the area have already reopened. So I’ll answer publicly here...

No. I am not open yet. Despite sone idiots that are!

Everybody seems to be relaxing restrictions. B&Q are reopening, Greggs, Costa, Homebase and Burger King are all among those big names who’ve opened their doors again recently, so it’s not surprising people are starting to expect businesses to be operating, and there is mounting pressure on small businesses like mine to open their doors again.

But, Boris Johnson warned us only two days ago that we are, ‘at the moment of maximum risk’.

It is my opinion that all we are going to achieve by choosing to relax our self imposed restrictions too soon is encourage this virus to stick around for even longer, which will not only cause a second wave of new deaths, but it will mean more and stronger government restrictions down the line.

So whilst the whole world may appear to be getting back to normal, I will not open my salon until the government deem it safe to do so.

As well as this, the new DEFRA (government) guidelines directed to pet groomers specifically state that I can work and dogs can be groomed BUT only if welfare issues are a factor.

There are many other strict guidelines to accompany that statement that make it impossible to work effectively:

🐾 Owners aren't allowed to bring their dog to the salon (unless they can walk) as this is non essential travel

🐾 Groomers may collect, but this requires us to change our vehicle insurance

🐾 Our vehicles would need to be fully disinfected, not only between each dog, but also between picking up and dropping off that same dog

🐾 Dogs have to be disinfected when arriving at the salon, PPE changed, then the groom can happen

🐾 After the groom, the salon space and all equipment needs to be disinfected

All of the above is all very well and I don’t disagree with any of it, but it would mean that one groom of a Cockerpoo would entail a total of approximately 4-5 hours.

If anybody is happy to pay up to £130 for the work that the groom would take, then that’s great, but otherwise it’s just not possible.

And yes, whilst there are circumstances in which I can work, the decision to stay closed for me is a moral one. I will not contribute towards the spread of this virus. I will not risk giving it to you, and I will not risk bringing it home to my family either, and therefore my salon will remain closed until the government restrictions are lifted.

The one piece of advice that has remained unchanged throughout all of this is...

Stay at home 💙 Protect the NHS 💙 Save lives

And so that is exactly what I will continue to do.

I hope that helps to explain my position.

Much love as always, and stay safe 💜. Keep brushing and get in touch if you need grooming advice.

Mary.

In an attempt to ease my boredom and support the NHS I have been making dog collar rainbows 🌈. If you would like one please message me and I will try and drop one off on one of my dog walks or shopping trips if you live near by. Or I could leave you one in my porch to collect. It is a bit tricky to distribute them at the moment otherwise but just let me know you want one and I’ll put one aside for your first groom appointment back (which hopefully won’t be too soon😩). Feel free to order more than one for family and friends dogs I don’t groom. I am asking that people just make a small donation via the link below or I will have a collecting tin in the salon once back if you prefer that. Thanks. Keep brushing! Love to you and all your pooches. 🌈 Mary xx

If anyone needs any advice on nail cutting, trimming faces/in front of eyes or any other grooming tips to tide you over please don’t hesitate to ask. I sent this to a customer yesterday but realized it looks a bit rude!!! 🙄🤣 How to trim in front of eyes with your scissors. Hold the dogs under the chin. If you don’t want a complete shave off when this madness is all over then brush brush brush!! 😉X

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾Note to all customers.... I’m continuing ‘business as usual’ for as long as I can. Totally understand and won’t be offended if you don’t want to stop and chat though! Happy to offer a collection and drop off service if you think that would help. If you need to cancel please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks. Mary. nosetotoes
