Today we're finishing early as trees down and branches hitting roof of van in local areas....
Advice from forestry ..
Walkers please stay away from woodland and forests this weekend in east and central Scotland .
Trees will be particularly susceptible to falling as
- our prevailing wind is from the west and this storm is coming from the east so trees aren’t braced against it
- the ground is already saturated so roots have little to hold onto
- leaves are still on trees and these act like sails and exaggerate the wind effect and add extra weight to the trees - this is why autumn storms often do more damage than January storms
Basically non wind firms edges catching the easterly wind may start to come over and if a couple go , you will literally get domino effect and it’s unpredictable.
