Good Evening, this post is mainly targeted towards our referring vets please. At EMS we are continually reviewing our data and looking for ways to improve our treatments. To enable us to do this we do have to research and investigate the diseases we are aiming to treat. We are trying to look into the treatment of peri-ocular sarcoids. To help us we are hoping to find some eyelids that are affected with sarcoids to use for histopathology analysis. If you happen to come across a horse that is in the unfortunate situation of needing to be euthanased but is affected with peri-ocular sarcoids, if you were able to get full permission from the owners and remove the full eyelid to be kept in formalin and posted to us, we would be so incredibly grateful. All expenses would be covered by EMS. The important bit is ensuring full owner consent please. We are acutely aware this is a very sensitive subject; without the samples it is difficult to gather the data that we need. Your help would be much appreciated. From the Team at EMS headquarters :)

We are delighted to announce a publication in the Equine Veterinary Journal for team members Emma Alsop and Derek Knottenbelt, working in partnership with the vets from Tweedie and Associates in Australia. Teamwork at its best!

Interesting morning at EMS. Emma & Derek dealt with a submitted case that required some research! 99% of our cases are of course equine. But there is a certain excitement throughout the team when we get to advise on an alternative species with a potential sarcoid lesion! Always remain open minded when dealing with non-horses. You never know what you might find!

Today at our National Equine Welfare council event at the BHS hub in Stirling, Petra Humphrey (BHS Central Chair) presented Derek Knottenbelt with hi-viz and bike stickers to keep everyone safe who is involved with the Vets with Horsepower project.

Thanks to BHS Central Scotland for supporting this great cause once again.
