“Oh my word, I just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for yesterday’s CPD on equine reproductive health!!!
It was absolutely fascinating and extremely informative – we were all riveted from start to finish!
We feel so privileged to have been given this amazing opportunity to gain knowledge from someone we respect and admire so much and we would love to work with you again in the future, if possible.”
Thank you again!

Prof. Knottenbelt and the team from Vets with Horsepower head off today on their Scandinavian journey!

The four supported charities for the 2023 Vets with Horsepower tour are:

1. Power to Ukraine: a project under the auspices of BEVA to send generators to Ukraine to help Ukranian vets treat horses under very difficult conditions in the middle of a war.
2. Camphill Village Trust: a UK based charity which supports adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health challenges to lead a life of opportunity. Camphill Village Trust
3. Saving the Survivors: StS treats and cares for animals, mainly rhinos, who have been subjected to brutal poaching injuries and then left to die. Saving The Survivors
4. The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust: this charity provides veterinary support for horses and donkeys in the Gambia, along with veterinary education and much needed public education about the care and welfare of these animals. The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust

We are delighted to announce that vet Emma Alsop Cert EM (IntMed) MRCVS. has joined our team - Emma will be working closely alongside Derek and Jenny advising on cases.

Emma grew up in Cheshire, spending a lot of time doing sport including pony club and eventing, as well as being in the English youth national swim squad. She graduated in 2001 from the University of Liverpool from where she went on to work in mixed practice. Emma then focussed on equine practice with an internship at Rossdales, becoming a hospital clinician within the equine medicine team. She gained her certificate in equine internal medicine in 2008. Emma has since travelled extensively around the world, spending a large chunk of time in South Africa working in first opinion and referral practice. Emma has also been involved as an equine vet in Mongolia, providing veterinary care for the Mongol Derby between 2014 and 2018. Emma’s main interests are equine anaesthesia and neonatology.

In her free time Emma loves open water swimming, hiking, mountain biking and spending time with her family.

Welcome Emma!

If you have had your clippers out recently, this is a perfect opportunity to take the time to examine your horse’s skin very carefully for any suspicious areas. It is a great time of the year to treat sarcoids before the dreaded flies re-appear over the Summer months. Remember - sarcoids grow in winter, so they will only get bigger from here. Please be vigilant and monitor your horses carefully, and if in any doubt, please contact your veterinary surgeon.

Vets with Horsepower, a charity founded by Prof. Knottenbelt, are running an event like no other!
Usually, the team take on a mammoth motorbike ride round various parts of the world to raise money for various charities. Unfortunately, they have not been able to do this due to the pandemic, but they have arranged a continuous 25-hour CPD event.

On the 29th of APRIL 2021 at 8 am LONDON TIME, they will start a 25-hour marathon CPD/CE event to include 32 talks from 23 speakers in a LIVE CONTINUOUS world record attempt on the longest continuous live CPD/CE course ever.

They hope to break the record for the number of veterinary delegates (they need more than 5000) in the biggest number of countries (they need 70!). The event is open to VETS, STUDENTS, NURSES/TECHS and to any horse owners or indeed anyone who is interested in the topics. Not everyone can stay up for the FULL MONTY, so a recording will be available to all registered delegates for 4-6 weeks afterwards.

They are asking for donations in lieu of an entry fee of £10 (or more of course if you like!). Given that the speakers are some of the most respected specialists in the world, this is a huge bargain. We hope we can persuade as many people as possible to help support us!

100% of the proceeds from the event will be used to support 4 amazing charities:
1. GAMBIA HORSE AND DONKEY TRUST: who provide veterinary services to all veterinary species and education on Animal Welfare in schools and colleges in the Gambia.
2. SAVING THE SURVIVORS: This is a charity that provides veterinary treatment for injured endangered species of wildlife in South Africa including Rhinos, elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard and pangolins etc that have been devastated by poachers.
3. ETHELBERT CHILD AND YOUTH CENTRE: for abused children in South Africa.
4. VETLIFE: a charity that provides support for vets and nurses who need help for any number of reasons. We are aware that the depression and su***de rates amongst vets is unacceptably high and this charity provides vital support for our beloved profession.

REGISTER NOW and book your place. The first 5000 delegates will get the live performance, but all delegates will get the recorded event!
