A cooling coat is a great piece of kit to help keep your dog comfortable when the warmer weather does arrive.
I make my Cuillin Cooling Coats in standard and custom sizes and so they fit all breeds and shapes. It works through heat evaporation with the cool fabric drawing the heat from your dog.
Sweet Lola is a romanian rescue dog, and like many is a mixed breed and so has a 'non standard' shape. She is a small dog with a long back and so required me to make custom sized coats for her.
Here she is togged out in her Morlich Waterproof Coat and Tay Drying coat, all set for the wet weather that we are currently experiencing far too much of just now!

Simply pop it on your dog after their walk, let them snooze away in it dreaming of the fun they've just had, all the while warming up and drying off nicely in their cosy drying coat.
As the water is absorbed by the microfibre towel lining of the drying coat, your dog warms up, their body heat allows the water to evaporate from the coat and so your dog is free to sleep on in a warm and dry coat. 💤
In these trying times businesses are looking at ways to diversify and so I am heading to Australia to launch my new Kangeroo Cooling Coat!

I woke at 4am this morning with lots of thoughts about sewing, making orders and stock, product display and events. My mind is all a whirl!
So who's all going to Crufts this year??
Not me!
The last time I had a stall at Crufts was back in 2016. I keep thinking about doing it again - usually just after it has been televised and I have FOMO, but I've never quite felt fully inspired to do it again for various reasons.
* As I make everything myself, the timing in early March is difficult to build up stock coming off the back of Christmas and winter.
* My business has changed - when I used to do Crufts I just made drying coats, but now I have quite a few different styles of coats, more sizes and custom orders are a huge part of my business now and so its even harder to replenish stock.
* I don't buy in products, everything is handmade, and so I don't have big stockpiles that I can discount for show offers
* It's a long way from Scotland and a long expensive week for accommodation and food
* It's hard as a one woman business and you have to rely on friends to help out which is a big ask - especially when most of them are based in Scotland too so I have their costs to cover too
* I did come closer this year - I had a hotel booked for the week and offers of help but when they called to say the hotel was shutting and my reservation cancelled I took it as a sign!
So don't go wandering around the halls looking for me as you won't find me - you will however find me on the internet >>>

Note the length of the legs - these are purposefully that length to ensure that the carpal pad isn't covered as this kind of acts like a heel and is important for grip when turning at speed, for balance when moving on uneven ground and for emergency stops.

I have added a foxes fleece in size medium to the website - just the one at the moment - as I'll admit that i'm not a huge fan of legs on dog coats (link to coat in comments).
I can see the benefit of legs for keeping muscles warm but my brain just isn't entirely comfortable with seeing dogs in them - despite my friends shouting legs, legs, legs at me for years 😆
So - yay or nay to dog coats with legs??

Let's talk feet - sewing feet that is ! It's cooling coat season and I use two specialist feet to sew them as the fabric can be quite difficult to use as it is needs to be supple which means the fabric is damp. A damp fabric doesn't flow freely through the machine and can stick on the needle plate. So I use a Walking Foot to 'walk' the fabric from the top, as well as it being moved by the feed dogs at the bottom - as seen in the first video. Without this walking foot the fabric would be nightmare to try and sew. The second foot I use is a Teflon Foot to sew on the binding. Pretty much like your pans, teflon is non-stick and so allows the fabric to glide through much easier. The right foot is essential when sewing certain fabrics and can make a potentially tricky fabric much easier to sew with. (2nd video and a photo of the feet can be found in the comments)
How waterproof are your waterproof coats? The fabric used for Brora and Morlich waterproof coats has a DWR (durable water repellent) coating meaning that it is waterproof, windproof and breathable. The water simply beads on the fabric and runs off without soaking into the fabric which means that your dog will stay dry even in the heaviest of downpours. ☔

My boy Alfie likes to dry Ruadhan off after a wet walk. I dont think it's quite as effective as a Freckles Drying Coat though.
This is my pup Ruadhan spotting himself in the mirror for the first time yesterday - I love it when he runs to the side and back again! I've already watched it lots of times and it still makes me chuckle
