**UPDATE ON BOOBOO**
We rescued a Shetland 4-5 weeks ago from a railway line in a country lane. Within minutes of arriving the barriers dropped and a train went through. When we got booboo on the side of the road we noticed he was very jumpy and scared on one side of his face and body. When we got our phone lights out we noticed he had a severe eye injury. (Photo below). We rushed home whilst someone stayed with him to get the box. We went back and loaded him up to bring him home. When we got (booboo) back we noticed he was covered in thistle Burrs and rain scald along his back. We gave him a fresh bucket of water, a 10ltr bucket and a fresh haylage net. He drunk nearly all of the water and started to scoff the haynet of haylage. The following day I called the police to notify them and got an Incident number 400-12/09 Shetland with the Essex police. We then decided to call the RSPCA Incase someone reported him as missing and to check for the microchip. Later that evening the RSPCA INSPECTOR attended and her face dropped, she couldn’t believe how bad his eye injury was. We asked her what we can do next. She then said she would need to scan him for a microchip which she did and advised us if he is microchipped and registered we have got to let the owner know. We had to accept that fact and when she scanned him he was microchipped. Our faces dropped because he had a little innocent face and seemed happy to be getting things he has not had. When the Inspector investigated the number from the microchip and there was no registered owner for him and therefor she advised us that if we was to keep him we have got to get the correct procedure done for him. The RSPCA said if we wanted them to pay for the surgery for booboo’s eye then we would have to go through the adoption process. We said we would be happy to keep him because he has been through enough let alone going from place to place before we can get him back. Immediately i phoned my Vet ANDY DOBSON who we have used for many of years and have built a relationship with. I sent him the photo of his eye and he advised he would need surgery ASAP we told the vet we wouldn’t be prepared to get it done that fast we have got 7 days to wait before he is legally ours. The vet advised to give him pain killer every morning to try settle him which we did for 2 weeks until our vet was able to get him in for surgery. 7 days went by and he was ours. After this he enjoyed his self running with a gelding miniature Shetland we have at the yard playing. He was really happy. On 6th October 2019 he went to the vets and had his eye removal surgery which was a cost of £500 plus extras if needed. After the surgery was completed booboo came home to rest for recovery. On 7th October 2019 booboo seemed back to his self adjusting to the eye not being there anymore. But on 8th October 2019 booboo seemed very uncomfortable within himself so we phoned the vet straight away. He advised to take him to the surgery. When we arrived the vet advised he seems to be having trouble going to the toilet (urine). The vet fitted a catheter to him to drain his bladder. After that booboo seemed very happy and back to his self still on medication from the surgery. We took him home and was keeping a close eye as the vet advised it could be bladder stones. If it is the operation would cost £1000-£1500. We didn’t know what else to say or do. The following day booboo had deteriorated again and looked uncomfortable we phoned the vet and he was at a call local to us. He attend at 11am on 9/10/2019 and the vet said he would do an ultrasound to check the bladder as the vet went to go inside booboos re**um the scanner wouldn’t go any further. The vet said we have an issue, it isn’t bladder stones it is a blockage in his re**um. The vet done all different procedures to help clear it and then left and asked us to call him and let him know. Within 3 hours he got really bad and we called the vet who said he wants him at the surgery ASAP which we done with arriving at 3pm the vet advised we would have to get liquids into his stomach to let it travel to go through to his bowel to the re**um to wash it out. Andy advised he would do the same procedure every 30 minutes. We did the procedure 5 times and nothing was changing. The vet done an internal to see if he can feel it and he couldn’t. The vet looked at me with tears in his eyes and said we have to do the best thing and let him go.
We was all very upset including the vet as he was getting attached to him.
This vet allowed us to take the pony to him and complete surgery without payment and in between that it has cost us a further £200.
We need to get the money together for this unexpected arrival. Please visit the go fund me page and donate so we can clear the bill from booboo and let the vet get the money he deserves for trying his almighty best for this little lad.
It is with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to booboo this evening. He was sadly PTS due to a severe impaction in his re**um which was caused from the surgery medication and stress. We only had this little lad 4-5 weeks and he had the best weeks he could possibly get. We still need to pay for booboo’s eye surgery. We would appreciate if anyone could donate to help us out as we have paid a lot of money out with the pony so far.
We would like to give a special thank you to OUR VET ANDY DOBSON who carried out all surgery’s and procedures he needed. He is more like a friend to us now and appreciate all he has done for us in these last few weeks.
