🌾 Grass Seed Season is Here! Keep Your Pets Safe! 🌾

Grass seeds may be small, but they can cause big problems for our furry friends. Check out some of the grass seeds we have removed recently! Some from paws and some from ears! 🐾

⚠️ Where can grass seeds become lodged?
🐾 Paws – Especially in dogs with furry feet, where seeds can burrow between the toes and even track up the leg.
👂 Ears – Causing pain and irritation deep in the ear canal.
Nose & Mouth – Seeds can enter while sniffing or exploring and may lead to infection.

‼️Signs to watch for:‼️
• Lameness
• Licking or chewing at the paws
• Swelling between the toes
• Head shaking or painful ears
• Sneezing or coughing after a walk
• Swelling on the face or neck

✅ Prevention:
• Avoid long, overgrown grass.
• Check your pet’s paws, ears and eyes after every walk and keep pets paws well groomed.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait. Grass seeds can migrate through the body and cause serious harm! Call us today if you are worried!

🌡️🐾 HEAT STROKE WARNING 🐾🌡️

With temperatures rising, heat stroke can quickly become life-threatening.

Ralph has the right idea keeping cool in his shaded swimming pool!💦🐾

⚠️ Signs to watch for:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Confusion or wobbliness

💦 WET BEFORE VET 💦
If you suspect heat stroke:
✅ Move your pet to a cool area
✅ Pour cool (not ice-cold) water over them
✅ Contact your vet immediately

❌ Never leave pets in parked cars.
❌ Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day.

Acting quickly can save your pet’s life.

We would like to issue a warning to owners of high-risk patients, including brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, elderly dogs, and thick-coated breeds🐶🐾

Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 34°C this week. Please only travel to the practice if it is absolutely necessary, as the risk of heatstroke will be significantly increased during this period.🌡️‼️
