whats the difference between a pelham and a universal?

A pelham is fixed action poll and direct mouth pressure.
The universal is loose action, meaning the mouthpiece slides for gag action before poll and mouth pressure then comes into effect

🌞 Top Tip Tuesday!

🤣 Oil your bits!

😋 yes really!
Any squeaky, rusty, sweet iron, barrel jointed bits. Get some olive or vegetable oil on them!

It will do them the world of good!

Especially if you use a sweet iron bit. Coat it with oil once a week and it will help prevent rough patches and flaking.

Give yours a go!

do you need a little bit more than a snaffle?

The cartwheel bit - a very useful bit if you just need a little bit more than a snaffle.
Also great for turning aids but maintains the loose connection rather than a fixed one of a d-ring or full cheek.

Not as much gag pressure but does have quicker tongue pressure than a universal.

Have you tried this yet?

A great bit for faster work if your horse just needs something to slow down and control their pace.

The kimblewick or butterfly flip is an adapted version of the original kimblewick with rein slots and a curb chain.

The curb strap is softer and sits higher and works to stabilise the bit.

The rein options give you snaffle and leveverage options.
This bit works on poll pressure to bring the head down.
I fitted a lot of these and find they work very well even without using the lower rein option. I used one with my mare on the snaffle setting during XC and she worked lovely in it!!
