Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. At any one time, we have up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 15-20 rabbits.
(418)

We also care for three goats, who are our permanent guests. We often look after 70-100 animals a day. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome if we are able to cater to their needs. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individu

ally and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. For those who stay at the Sanctuary a little longer than others, our staff give them as close to a pet’s life as possible, for as long as an acceptable quality of life can be maintained.

💖🐰Rabbit Awareness Week Day 1 🐰💖

🐰 Think outside the..... Hutch 🐰

Here at OAS, we take rabbit welfare very seriously. Any adopter wanting to adopt rabbits from OAS must meet the RWAF minimum housing requirements.

Sadly despite the RWAF’s hard work trying to spread the word that a hutch is not enough, we still get many applications where the housing falls below the minimum requirements.

We mainly find that many adopters have been misinformed when buying accommodation. Sadly many think it’s acceptable to have rabbits confined to hutches overnight, they need constant access to no less than 3m x 2m x 1m Here at OAS, we try our very best to educate our adopters and show them exactly what rabbits need to ensure they are housed in the correct accommodation.

Please click on the link below for further info:

If you are thinking of adopting rabbits then please ensure you do the correct research before buying their accommodation. Please feel free to email us for help and advice:

Ready for my close-up! What a poser! 😎

This cheeky chap is looking for his forever 5-star home and with a face like his he's sure to be snapped up! 🤩

When Tucker first arrived at the sanctuary he was shy and overwhelmed with his new surroundings. The team worked hard to make him feel safe and within no time Tucker was showing us that he is fun, fun, FUN! ❤️

Like most sight hounds he's all legs, goofy and 100% cuddle monster! He will bring huge amounts of joy to his new family. We hope he doesn't have to wait too long for them to find him! 🙏

Tucker is looking for the following type of home 🏡
✅️ Tucker can live with children aged 12+
✅️ Tucker can live with another dog pending successful meets at the sanctuary. Resident dogs must already be neutered and happy to live with a lively young dog.
✅️ A private secure garden with a minimum of 6ft

Sunday Success Story 😻

We adopted Pickle (formerly Pebbles) just over two weeks ago and we'd love to give a little update on how she's doing. 😍

She's settled in really well, although she's still a little timid and exploring the whole house she's made herself very much at home in my home office where she's found the prime bird watching spot and can spend hours sitting by the window. ❤️

She's such a sweet and affectionate girl and her evening zoomies are happening more and more often, especially with her favourite feathery toy. 🥰

We both love her so much and she's been such an amazing addition to our little family. We can't wait to see her come out of her shell more and see more of that mischievous side that we're already seeing glimpses of. 💖

I've attached some pictures of our beautiful girl and wanted to say thank you again OAS for bringing her into our life and all the hard work you do to help animals in need. 🐈‍⬛💖

We are both so grateful to the team and would recommend anyone looking to adopt to contact OAS.
❤️

🐈‍⬛💗

Thank you so much to Pickles' wonderful adopters for offering her such a wonderful home. Without wonderful adopters like yourselves, we wouldn't be able to do what we do! 😻

❤️ ❤️ 😻

Smiley Staffy Sunday ❤️

Irresistible beauty Ziah has bounced into our care with real pizzazz. ❤️

Ziah has had an unsettled life so far, being passed around from home to home. Now is her time to find her forever abode, a home where she doesn't have to worry that she will be moved on again.

She's a nosey, sassy and sometimes silly character who thrives on affection and being in a home environment. She's super affectionate with her people and enjoys spending time having siestas in the sun.

Ziah is looking for the following type of home 🏡
✅️A private secure garden with a minimum of 5 ft fencing.
✅️ A pet-free home
✅️ Ziah can live with teenagers aged 14 +

If you can offer Ziah her final & forever home please click on the link below:

Please share Ziah’s plea to find her a forever home ❤️

Hazel needs your help!! 🙏

All she needs from you is for you to hit the share button! Remember one share could be all she needs to find her forever home! 🙏💖

Five-year-old Hazel’s human companions were moving into no-pet accommodation. Sadly, although they didn’t want to give her up this was the only choice they had. So here we are searching for Hazel’s forever home. 🙏

She’s the kind of cat who struts into any environment and instantly owns it! The joys of being a cat, eh! 🤣

She has a cracking personality and despite only being here for a short period, she’s already becoming a hit with the cat team. 🥰

She’s definitely a cat who knows her own mind but that’s not a bad thing if anything it makes her even more loveable. 🧡

Hazel would love nothing more than a cosy sofa to call her own and hopefully with her human companion by her side for snuggles.. When she wants them! 🥰

Hazel is looking for the following type of home 🏡
👶 Can live with children aged 14+
🐈 Cannot live with other cats
🐶 Can potentially live with a cat-savvy dog
🏡 Needs outside access

If you can see offer Hazel her forever home, please click on the link below 👇

Sahara wanted to say she sympathises with all the pregnant humans out there! 🥵

Being heavily pregnant at the moment means that she’s feeling the heat even more so! However, her wonderful foster mum is doing everything she can to keep her comfortable. 🥰

Here she is demonstrating that occasionally cats will use the resources we give to them 🤣🤣

🐾 A Huge Thank You to Webmart! 🐾

We were thrilled to welcome the Webmart team for their corporate volunteering day! 🌟

With the heat too high for dog walking (normally our go-to activity), their eight-strong crew rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in with some incredible work around the sanctuary.

🎨 They transformed our new dog home room with fresh coats of paint on the ceilings and walls
🪑 Refurbished and re-painted the bench in the cattery garden
🌿 Tackled the dreaded task of weeding between dozens of paving slabs in the dog exercise area

After a well-earned lunch at The Picnic Hamper, they spent some relaxing time in the cattery, rabbit rooms, and goat paddock - making fast friends with Snowey, Tigger and Bailey 🐐🐇🐱

If all that wasn’t generous enough, they also donated an amazing £2,000 to support our work. 💛

Please join us in giving a huge THANK YOU to Webmart – a brilliant bunch of people from a company that truly cares about its community. 👏💚

Seven-year-old Simon arrived in our care after his human companion tragically passed away. 💔

We had found the perfect home for him but sadly, the resident kitty disagreed so here we are trying to locate his forever home. 🙏😻

All things considered, Simon has settled in relatively well. As you enter the room, he will undoubtedly be hidden in one of his many beds. But he will soon start meowing to let you know where he is. Once he feels safe, he will head on over for fuss and attention. 💖

He loves a chin tickle and will nuzzle in for more. All he wants is a home of his own with a loving family. 🥰

Simon would love to find the following type of home 🏡
👶 Can live with children age 10+
🐈 Cannot live with cats
🐶 Can potentially live with a cat-savvy dog
🏡 Needs outdoor access

If you can offer Simon his forever home, please click on the link below 👇

Today is going to be hot hot hot 🥵 please keep your fur companions safe ❤️

Here are some tips for keeping them cool 😎

💧 Provide plenty of fresh water throughout the day

❄️ Place cool mats or ice pods around the house or inside their accommodation.

🌳 Provide plenty of shade, especially for bunnies.

🐾 Groom them regularly to help remove as much loose fur as possible.

🥗 Sprinkle fresh water over small furries vegetables.

🐰 Place damp towels over small furries accommodation.

⚠️ Please don’t walk your dog during the day, wait until the temperatures have lowered before walking your dog.

⛑ If you are at all concerned about your fur companion, seek veterinary advice.

Our Story

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. Since opening in 1967, we have proudly managed to help over 27,500 animals find their forever home. At any one time, we have around 50 dogs, 70 cats and kittens plus a number of rabbits. We also care for our permanent guests of goats and a horse. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individually and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. Where this is not possible, due to behavioural issues, for example, OAS is their home and our staff and volunteers give them as close to a pet’s life as possible. They are our sponsor animals.
