Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. At any one time, we have up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 15-20 rabbits.
(421)

We also care for three goats, who are our permanent guests. We often look after 70-100 animals a day. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome if we are able to cater to their needs. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individu

ally and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. For those who stay at the Sanctuary a little longer than others, our staff give them as close to a pet’s life as possible, for as long as an acceptable quality of life can be maintained.

Paddington & McNugget desperately need your help! 🆘💔

This week, we have had a worrying time with two very poorly kittens. 😭

McNugget arrived in our care on Tuesday along with her mum and her siblings. Sadly, it was very clear from the moment she arrived that something wasn’t right with her front leg. She wasn’t bearing weight on it at all. 😭

So she went into Hart vets to have an X-ray, where it was discovered she had broken her leg, and sadly, the break was so bad that saving her leg wasn’t an option. 💔

Then we have Paddington. Unfortunately, it’s believed she may have climbed the curtains and fallen. She was instantly taken to Vets 4 Pets Banbury, where she had an X-ray, which showed she had fractured her spine. 😭😭

She was paralysed and had lost the use of her bladder. But she still had deep pain sensation, and so we opted to give her time as advised by our vets. 🙏🙏

Over the last few days, she has shown some improvement, and after lots of conversations, she will be having spinal surgery tomorrow to give her the best chance possible! 🙏💚

We have so many people to thank for all of their support this week! Firstly, The Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester & Aylesbury for always being there when we need them. To the team at Vets 4 Pets Banbury for all of their help. To Gill our amazing fosterer for giving Paddington the extra care she has needed this week. Finally, to Steffi for coming to the rescue! ❤️

Between these two ops we are urgently needing to raise £6000. We hate to ask but if anyone is able to donate, even £1 goes along way towards helping.

If you are able to donate, please click on the link below:

Or hit the Facebook donate button. Thank you so much all your support. 🥰

Wishing Paddington all the luck in the world tomorrow and to McNugget in her recover from her amputation earlier today.

Positive vibes are needed for little McNugget! 🧡

Sadly, at the age of only 5 weeks old, she will be undergoing surgery to amputate her front right leg. 😭

Please keep an eye on our page later today to read about McNugget’s story and of course an update on how she’s doing! 🧡

Thank you so much to all at The Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester & Aylesbury for coming to the rescue! 💚

Forever Part of the OAS Family 🕊️💚

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Sanford, who volunteered tirelessly at our Didcot charity shop for many years. 💔

John was a much-loved part of the OAS family. He always greeted everyone with a beaming smile and had a warm, welcoming way about him. His kindness, dedication, and hard work made a lasting impact on both our team and the many people who met him over the years. 💚

We are incredibly grateful for everything John did for the charity and for the time he gave so selflessly. He will be greatly missed by us all. ❤️

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with John’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. 💙

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of our supporters!! 💚

Over the past few weeks, we have been inundated with gifts from our Amazon Wishlist for our kittens and other animals!

Not only that, but we’ve had deliveries from Tesco, Zooplus and other pet retailers! 😻

And not forgetting those who donated financially, you have all been amazing! We couldn't do what we do without the amazing support you show us all the time! ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone, it means so much! Pictured below are just a few of the little kitties you have helped. 💚

🐾 Meet Toby 🐾

Toby is a handsome 2-year-old looking for a loving home to call his own. He came into our care through no fault of his own after a change in his owner’s circumstances. 💔

While he was a little reserved at first, he’s now beginning to show his lovely personality.❤️

Toby enjoys fuss and attention — especially chin scratches! He also has an independent streak and is happiest when he can do cat things on his own terms: eat, play, nap… repeat 😸

He’d make a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates a cat with both affectionate and independent sides. 😍

🏡 Toby is looking for a home with:
• 🧑 Adults or older children (14+)
• 🐱 No other cats
• 🐶 No dogs
• 🌿 Safe outdoor access

🥰 Special foster appeal for Gracie 🥰

Every animal that comes into the sanctuary needs our help one way or another, but now and again, one comes along that breaks everybody's heart. 💔💔

Gracie is that dog. 😢

We don't know what's happened to Gracie in her short life, but it's clear that humans have failed her. 😭😭

This sweet, sweet dog is so fearful of people and the world, yet she has never shown any aggression. 🥹

She desperately needs a lifeline, a chance to be shown love and to be able to feel safe and secure.
We know that fostering can be hard, especially when you watch them grow and flourish, but it can also be massively rewarding. ❤️

If you can help Gracie by fostering or even sharing this post, please do what you can to give Gracie a chance. 🤞🤞🤞

We are looking for the following foster home for Gracie.
✅️ A private, secure garden with a minimum of 6ft fencing.
✅️ A home with dog-savvy children age 12+
✅️ Gracie can potentially live with another dog pending successful meets. Resident dogs will need to be already neutered and confident, all-arounders who can show Gracie that the world is not such a scary place.
✅️ Gracie can live with dog-savvy cats.
✅️ Her own space within the home where she can feel safe.
✅️ Most importantly, patience! It may take a while before Gracie feels brave enough to interact; she will need a dedicated family that supports her.

If you are interested in fostering Gracie, please click on the link below: https://oxfordshireanimalsanctuary.org.uk/dog-fostering-questionnaire/

The sanctuary covers all fostering costs.
Fosters will need to be able to transport Gracie to our vets at Harts Bicester and to potential adopt meets. 🐶

Thank you, Monochrome Angel Foundation 💚🐰

We are incredibly grateful to The Monochrome Angel Foundation for awarding Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary a grant towards the wonderful new rabbit accommodation we recently built 🐇💚

Their support will help us continue providing enriching, high-welfare environments for the rabbits in our care while they wait for their forever homes. 😍

We are so thankful for their generosity and for recognising the importance of rabbit welfare and education. The new accommodation is already making a huge difference to the rabbits staying with us, and we are delighted to have their support for this important project. ❤️

Thank you again from all of us at OAS — and especially from the rabbits enjoying their fantastic new setups! 🐰✨

New Arrivals…. Aren’t they adorable 🐶❤️

All of our new arrivals are looking for their forever home. Some have specific needs whether that be medical or behavioural but they all share one thing in common, they all want to be loved unconditionally ❤️

If you are looking for a canine companion, please click on the link below 👇

https://oxfordshireanimalsanctuary.org.uk/animal-type/dog/

You must read each individual bio, some are looking for very specific homes. Please only apply if you can offer them the home they need 🥰

We assess each dog as an individual, a lot of work goes into deciding what each dog needs and finding them the correct home is in turn giving them the best chance of that being their forever home ❤️

Please share to help our canine friends find their forever home 🥰

We’ve been keeping a little secret… 🐰❤️

Recently, we took in seven rabbits, six females and one male. A few days before their arrival, three kits were born. 🌍

We were in a tricky situation, deciding whether to move them, but they and their human desperately needed our help. And so we had to go ahead with the arrangements we had made to bring them into our care. 💚

A week in, and all three were doing great. We then started to notice that Precious, their mum, was separating one of the kits from the other two. Was this maternal instincts, who knows, but sadly, a few days later, Precious had rejected her, and so, she went to live with her foster mummy, Kim. ❤️

Kim did a fabulous job, but sadly, little Penny took a turn for the worse last week and, unfortunately, made her way to Rainbow Bridge. 💔

Knowing that Penny had lots of love and attention in her short life made the blow a little easier to accept. We are so grateful to Kim for taking little Penny under her wing. 🥰

As for these two, they are doing so well. They are causing no end of laughter with their baby zoomies and binkies. They have grown so much in the past few days. 💚

We will keep you all updated on their progress, and no doubt our rabbit socialisers will enjoy meeting this gorgeous little family once they are fully vaccinated. ❤️
