Very worried about this missing Ridgeback. Having owned them for 32 years I know that they are loyal dogs who don’t like being away from their owners and they really don’t like the cold. Where can she be? Apparently spooked by an electric fence.

Evening all. Sitting here listening to the fireworks and it prompted me to remind you all that it’ll soon be Christmas (as if you needed reminding). Please let me know if you need visits over Christmas. As usual it’ll be normal rate apart from Christmas Day which is one visit only at time and a half. No charge for cancellations (there never is). 🎄 ⛄️ 🎁 🧑‍🎄

DOG/PET GRIEF
This is an observational post for anyone who may experience the same thing.
After my dog Isla died on 7th September her brother (same parents, different litter) started to grieve despite him seeing her after she passed away (I made sure he did so he’d understand). He wasn’t looking for her but became incredibly sad. Would no longer drink water from their water bowl despite it being thoroughly cleaned (still won’t), wouldn’t eat from a dog bowl, wouldn’t eat dog food, wouldn’t lie in his crazy chilled out position (on his back with his legs in the air). This got worse when my son (his human brother) went on a previously booked holiday for 3 weeks. He lost weight and I tried everything I could. I believe he thought that he had also gone forever. I felt like he was blaming me for everyone disappearing! 2 days after his human brother returns his appetite has returned with a vengeance, his tail is wagging again, his eyes have started to sparkle and I know he’s going to be ok.

The whole point of this post is to say that animals really do have feelings (not that I ever doubted it).

When you have shown loyalty to a veterinary practice for over 20 years and spent an absolute fortune during that time, it’s saddened and angered me at their lack of compassion at such a sad time. All about the money. I will be moving on now. Had a few recommendations for New Grange vets. Back to the small and friendly. Anyone with them?
