A Kind Reminder About Coat Care 😊

- Not my photo but have had worse on my table in the past 😢

As groomers, our goal is always the same:
to keep your dog comfortable, healthy, and happy.
We love giving fluffy grooms, cute trims, and tidy styles — that’s the fun part of our job. But sometimes, a dog’s coat needs more help than a simple brush-out or tidy can provide. We want to gently explain why that happens and what it means for your dog.

💛 Why Regular Grooming Matters So Much

Dogs with long, curly, or thick coats need regular brushing and grooming to keep their skin healthy. When a coat isn’t maintained, it can start to:
• Tangle into painful mats
• Trap moisture and debris
• Pull on the skin
• Hide irritation or infections

These issues aren’t always visible from the outside — but your groomer can feel them when they start working.

✂️ Why We Sometimes Need to Shave a Dog Short

No groomer wants to shave a dog down completely.
We prefer giving styled cuts, fluffy finishes, and keeping your dog’s coat just the way you like it.
But when a dog’s coat is severely tangled or matted, brushing it out would be extremely painful for them.

Shaving the coat short:
• Removes mats quickly and safely
• Relieves pulling on the skin
• Allows the skin to breathe
• Lets hidden issues finally heal

Think of it like giving your dog a fresh, comfortable start.

🐶 You May See Skin Issues After a Shave — and That’s Normal

Mats can hide:
• Redness
• Irritation
• Bruises
• Hot spots
• Flea bites or debris

These problems often become visible only once the tight, tangled hair is removed. They weren’t caused by grooming — they were uncovered so they can finally be treated.

🤝 We’re On the Same Team

Please know:
We never judge.
We understand that life gets busy, dogs wiggle, and coats can get out of hand faster than people expect.

Our only goal is to make your dog feel better and to support you in keeping their coat healthy going forward. We’re always happy to:
• Recommend brushes and combs
• Show you how to brush at home
• Help set up a schedule that works for your dog’s coat type
• Answer any questions you have

❤️ Thank You for Trusting Us With Your Dog

We love your dogs like they’re our own.
Every decision we make — even the difficult ones — comes from a place of care, compassion, and wanting what’s best for them.

If you ever want to talk through a grooming decision or learn more about coat maintenance, we’re here to help.

Warning! We're seeing heatstroke cases in our Pet Hospitals and, tragically, some could not be saved ⚠️

Heatstroke is a very serious condition that can cause severe dehydration, organ damage and even death. If your pet is showing symptoms of heatstroke, start cooling them down immediately and contact your vet.

It’s important for pet owners to be aware of the signs of heatstroke. The quicker they’re cooled down, the better their chance of recovery.

See the full guide: https://pdsa.me/2M3r

*Please note that ice cubes are perfectly safe to use as a treat to cool down on a hot day. If your pet is suffering from heatstroke they should not be used as treatment.

This includes: Vomiting, excessive panting, foaming at the mouth, bright red or pale gums, drooling, confusion, weakness, collapsing, shaking, seizures and diarrhoea.]

As we are now approaching the warmer months, just a reminder to ensure that your dog is up to date with their flea and tick treatment 🙏

We always do a brief check for ticks during and after our walks, especially on our adventure days where we are a bit more remote. However, they can be easy to miss and we always recommend you're checking for these too as they can even be picked up in the garden! 🤦
