🦔 Hedgehog happy ending 🦔
This little guy (who we affectionately named Artful Hodger) was brought into us by a member of the public after being found in their garden in the day time reluctant to move.
He was taken home by our nurse Eve who rescues and rehabilitates wild hedgehogs. He was not using one of his hind legs very well so we X-rayed him in practice and found that he had dislocated his left hip.
An attempt was made to put the hip joint back in place but this was unfortunately unsuccessful. Our head vet Gavin then proceeded to perform a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHNO) in which he removed the head of the femur to make Arty more comfortable.
Eve worked very hard medicating and providing physiotherapy and hydrotherapy at home, and he is currently making great progress. Once he has fully recovered then he will be released at a safe release site.
We would also like to thank everyone who has made a donation to Hedgehog Haven using our collection box in reception, as this greatly helps towards rehabilitating wild hedgehogs.
