If your dog steals socks, hairbands or even loo roll like Cody here and turns it into a game, this one’s for you! 👀

If you want to see less of this stealing behaviour you need to determine why they are doing it. Are they bored? Lacking mental stimulation? Not getting adequate exercise or interaction from you?

Fulfil that need and then we would want to discourage that behaviour by staying calm and removing our attention each time this occurs. Teaching a “drop” would also be super handy in times like this.

And if all else fails we simply just direct there attention elsewhere like I did here and pick up our stolen goods 🧻😅

Please note this is discussing attention seeking behaviour and not resource guarding, if you feel your dog is stealing items with the purpose of purely guarding them do seek help from a professional 🩵

APPLICATIONS OPEN

Our girls came in as unclaimed strays and went into foster. We named the tri Jack Russell Ida and the Jrt x Chi Hilda. Here’s what their foster mum says about them.

Hilda is a sweet little girl, who loves nothing more than snuggling up on your lap and giving kisses… she loves nothing more than rolling over and laying like a baby, whilst having her tummy rubbed. She sleeps well in a crate at night and will often just take herself off into the crate during the day also for a nap. She is fine being left for around 3-4hrs. She is very food orientated and has a very good appetite. She walks ok on a lead, but seems to prefer a potter around the garden at leisure as opposed to a long walk. Toilet training is ongoing, but with regular garden visits, I have seen very little accidents, she just needs to be encouraged while it’s cold !

Ida is a very cute girl, but quite hand shy, she will approach you with a little smile on her face and tail wagging like crazy for fuss, but is not a fan of being picked up… she is getting much more confident with this, but will need ongoing work to help her overcome her jumpiness…. She loves her food and is very excited at meal times. She sleeps well overnight in her crate and will also take herself off for a nap in there during the day. Happy being left for 3-4hrs max. Toilet training is ongoing, but with encouragement to have regular garden visits, this is improving greatly and feels that the cold is a factor with this at the moment. Ida walks well with a harness and loves a good sniff of everything outside.

If you feel you could offer a forever home for our girls please TEXT 07863 253627 giving details of your home environment and what type of home you’re able to offer.

Both girls are dog friendly and will come homed being microchipped, vaccinated, spayed, flea treated & wormed. Home checks and adoption donation applies.

A dog can’t feel better about something if they’re not given the opportunity to understand it 💭

When we quickly pull dogs away as they stop to look at a trigger, we interrupt their ability to observe, assess and process what’s happening, often leaving them feeling uncertain rather than safe.

uncertainty ≠ anxiety

When a dog can’t gather enough information to decide whether something is safe, dangerous or irrelevant, their brain is going to predict worst case scenario… and their body will react accordingly.

However, for observation to be emotionally beneficial, your dog needs to be calm enough to actually process what they’re seeing. Simply letting a dog stare when they’re already overwhelmed won’t help.

So when should we allow observation?
- When you have enough distance that you know your dog is not going to react and can cope with.
- When the trigger is not directly approaching you.

And when should we move away?
- If the trigger is approaching and a stressful interaction is likely then it’s far better to prevent rehearsals of reactions
- If you notice early signs of stress and suspect a reaction is building

Moving away at the right time is not failure but very good handling!

Every dog is different, and so are the reasons behind their reactions. Training isn’t about forcing dogs to cope… it’s about helping them feel safe enough to learn 🐾

Beautiful Rosie & Reggie who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting are looking for a home! Anyone have room for 2 little cuties , sharing the post would be greatly appreciated 🙈⭐️

Rosie and Reggie our Lhasa Apso’s aged 8 & 10 came in after their mum sadly passed away and no family members were in a position to take them on.

Both just want a warm lap and lots of snuggles! They are extremely affectionate, and very loveable.

Both will happily take as many strokes as anyone is willing to give! Rosie would quickly flourish in a simple life alongside Reggie, with love and warmth … Reggie is a little more sensitive and may take a couple of weeks to settle and show his personality but when he does it is a treat!

He’s funny, always showing off his one sided underbite smile! He does like a bit of a play with the other dogs in foster and gets excited at the prospect of running around despite his years ! Rosie also enjoys a daily play and run around with the other dogs (but once a day is enough for her!), and neither is bothered about toys or chasing a ball.

They like their food but are certainly not food obsessed. They are both house trained. They would also enjoy a relatively quiet life although have been great in foster around visiting children but feel a home with no children or older children (13 plus) would much better suit.

A cat free home would also be sought as neither would tolerate a cat in the home.

Also be mindful they will need regular grooming every 10-12 weeks.

Rosie & Reggie have been vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, flead & wormed. Currently in Shoeburyness Essex in foster.

If you feel you could give a home to BOTH please TEXT 07863 253627 giving details of your home environment and what type of home you’re able to offer and whereabouts you live.
Adoption fee applies

*LIMITED AVAILABILITY*

Walk n Train is a structured training service designed to support behaviour change through consistency, repetition and real-life practice. This service focuses on skill-building, emotional regulation and reducing the rehearsal of unwanted behaviours during everyday walks.

Because behaviour change relies on repetition and consistency, Walk n Train is offered in structured packages rather than single sessions.

It can support lead skills, engagement, recall foundations, over-arousal and reactivity support at a distance.

It isn’t a quick fix and it isn’t a replacement for a full behaviour programme but for the right dogs, it can be a really valuable layer of support.

Curious whether it’s a good fit for your dog? Dm me or pop me a message on WhatsApp 😇 🤍

5 things you can do now to help your nervous dog become more confident ⭐️

1. A predictable routine takes away the “what if” feeling which fuels their anxiety! If they know what happens next there able to mentally prepare for a situation and make better choices 😁

2. Giving dogs a choice lets them feel in control of a situation, they learn their choice leads to good things encouraging curiosity to make even better choices in future 💫

3. When your dog feels safe with you , the world will feel a little less scary too & instead of going through it alone they’ll look to you for reassurance and guidance 🌎🩵

4. Confidence isn’t built overnight, it’s built one small win at a time and rewarding the small amounts of progress tells your dog “your getting this!” and this encourages them to keep trying!

5. A confident dog is a calm dog… a dog that is constantly living on the edge is not physically able to learn and process information because there too busy trying to survive in their scary world. Rest lowers their stress hormones allowing them to regulate their emotions allowing space for curiosity, a chance for building confidence.

6. When you step in to help your dog by protecting them from being put into overwhelming situations by offering them space or a choice, your dog learns that they can relax because they can trust that you won’t put them in a scary situation which overtime removes there reason to worry 💭

I won’t recommend doggy day care centres (I’m talking about high volume environments) to clients and here is why…

For some dogs it can be great but for a lot of dogs, it can actually be really overwhelming and I’ve seen first hand how it can lead to things like frustration, reactivity, over-arousal, and a struggle to settle at home.

This isn’t about bashing daycares as some do a brilliant job! & daycare can be a great choice for the right dog in the right setup. ⭐️

It’s about understanding your dog’s individual needs. Just like us, not everyone thrives in a busy social environment. And although we may look fine to others that doesn’t mean we are… and the same applies to our dogs!

💭 what’s the biggest challenge you face with your dog’s socialization?

Starting my new chapter 💫…

I started Plush Pups a couple of years ago now when I was at University as a way of stepping into the animal industry - and it has been such a joy caring for so many furbabies along the way. Not many people can say they LOVE their job but I honestly can and I’m so greatful for that 🩵

But as my journey has grown, so has my knowledge & passion for what I’ve always wanted to do & what I studied hard for 🎓

So… Plush Pups will now be
⭐️Canine Coaching with Jazz⭐️

For those I haven’t messaged don’t worry! it will be the same care for your furbabies but my books have now been adjusted to accommodate behavioural and training clients.

Thankyou all for being a part of this journey - keep your eyes peeled for doggy training and behaviour content for future 👀

My website will be up and running soon 😊💻
