Starting my new chapter 💫…

I started Plush Pups a couple of years ago now when I was at University as a way of stepping into the animal industry - and it has been such a joy caring for so many furbabies along the way. Not many people can say they LOVE their job but I honestly can and I’m so greatful for that 🩵

But as my journey has grown, so has my knowledge & passion for what I’ve always wanted to do & what I studied hard for 🎓

So… Plush Pups will now be
⭐️Canine Coaching with Jazz⭐️

For those I haven’t messaged don’t worry! it will be the same care for your furbabies but my books have now been adjusted to accommodate behavioural and training clients.

Thankyou all for being a part of this journey - keep your eyes peeled for doggy training and behaviour content for future 👀

My website will be up and running soon 😊💻

Does your dog bark, lunge & pull towards other dogs? lets talk about it…

❌ So reactivity isn’t disobedience.

Reactivity is driven by an emotion - often fear or frustration.

Rather than correcting the reactive behaviour and giving your dog something else to worry about, we instead want to understand how your dog is feeling so we can help them feel safer and more comfortable in those situations.

Yes, punishing the behaviour you don’t want to see may stop your dog reacting for now…
But this does not change the underlying emotion that caused that reactivity in the first place.

Far too often, we see reactivity being “trained out” with corrections whether that be a pop of the leash or a pinch of a prong collar. All this does is teaches the dog they are not allowed to express how they feel.

⚠️The emotion driving the behaviour is still there. You just can’t see it…

Now my issue with this is that by doing so especially with dogs where the reactivity is driven by fear is you are creating a ticking time bomb 💣

When dogs learn they can’t show us they’re uncomfortable, we often see aggression “come out of nowhere”—whether it’s directed at the trigger, or redirected onto the owner.

The behaviour will escalate if you’re forcing them into situations that cause them stress…

So if you genuinely care about your dog and how they feel, the first step is to understand why they are reacting.
Not punishing it. 🙏🏻

Now I’m not saying don’t ever play fetch again! But it’s definitely not as good for your dog as you think it is.

And here’s my reasons why…

🦴 Repetitive movements like the sudden stops your dog does to grab the ball, the sharp turns and explosive jumps. That’s quite the impact on their joints! & this can lead to joint strains and muscle injuries.

Now it’s completely fine to play fetch every now and again but it’s when it becomes one of the only off lead activities you do with your dog that it becomes a problem.

🏃🏽‍♀️Your building an athlete! Did once throwing the ball a couple of times do the trick? But now your throwing it endlessly and your dog is still ready for more. Well the more you practice this the fitter you are making your dog which then requires you to increase their walks to physically furfill them.

⚡️Playing fetch spikes adrenaline and can be over stimulating for many dogs. Adrenaline can take days to work its way out of your dogs body so if your consistently playing fetch you are most likely contributing to your dogs inability to settle both outside and inside the home.

So if you have a dog that seems to be a bundle of energy 24/7 or either a dog that’s easily stressed or on high alert, it’s best to avoid high adrenaline games like fetch and instead swap this out for activities that engage your dogs brain 🙂

Here’s why you should…⬇️

It’s far too often I’m seeing dogs on their walks being pulled every moment they stop to sniff. I think many find it irritating but the whole point of walking your dog is for their benefit and sniffing has many! 😄

🧘🏽‍♀️ it’s actually a calming activity that also releases mood boosting dopamine.

Which not to mention is great for our anxious dogs 😦

🌳 Helps them read & process the environment

🧠 Keeps there brains busy! REMEMBER mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise.

🤗 It makes walks for them Fun So let’s encourage our dogs to stop and sniff instead of hurrying them along to match our pace ☺️

Using a longer lead doesn’t mean your dog is untrained💥. It means you’re giving them space to be a dog, to sniff, explore, and move freely whilst staying safe.

Long lines are not a step backward but instead a tool for thoughtful, responsible dog walking 🦮.Even dogs with great recall can benefit from one, especially:

-In new or unpredictable environments
-Around distractions like wildlife or kids
-When practicing recall
-When your dog is trigger stacked (after a stressful situation)

And plenty more…

But do not ❌
-Clip them to collars or front-clip harnesses. It can risk injury. Stick with a non-restrictive, well-fitting back-clip harness that allows for safe movement.

Long lines = freedom with boundaries 💫
Let’s normalize that!

Hiya!

To those that are new here, I’m Jasmin & Plush Pups has been my pride and joy for just over 2 years now ☺️.

On a slightly more personal note if you didn’t know already I absolutely love bull breeds with my all time favourites being staffies 🤩. Having work experience in the rescue centre Dogs trust 💛 I have become very passionate about rescuing, however I also completely understand why this isn’t suitable for some. Leading to me also being extremely passionate about ethical and reputable breeders but I can dive into why in another post! 😇

When I’m not working with dogs, you’ll probably find me in the gym 🏃🏽‍♀️. It’s my personal escape and a huge part of my routine that helps me stay fit and focused for everything I do, including all my work with dogs 🐕

I currently have 2 doggos… Roxie my 7yr old staffie and Bauer my 14yr old staffie x Jack Russel. They are both the sweetest and to this day I have still never met a dog that loves to cuddle more than my 2 🙈. Although, they both do have their behavioural struggles so I can completely empathise with clients who own behaviourally challenging dogs.

My books are currently closed for new dog walking clients due to my current lovely clients keeping me so busy, however I will be sharing my advice and dog training tips regularly on this page! So make sure you give this post a like ❤️ and that your following me 😌
