Fresh breath for Christmas? Don't mind if I do!

This beaut has got to feel so much better with clean gnashers. Wasn't keen on peanut butter toothpaste though... Not sure I would be, either 🤔

Stinky breath? No problem!

Ask me about anaesthesia free teeth cleaning.

Significantly kinder on the purse than a vet dental, and far lower risk than anaesthesia or sedation. And these are the kind of results that can be achieved (this was a single session)

COVID UPDATE

As you may be aware, I was recently struck by covid, and it rather wiped the floor with me.

HUGE thanks to both the understanding folks I had to reschedule, when I couldn't make it across my landing without resting, but also to the "unaffected" appointments who have happily moved over, to help me fit in the 42 (😱) appointments I've needed to squeeze into an already full lead up to Christmas. I couldn't have done it without your obliging flexibility, so THANK YOU ❤️

I'm now back to full days, and believe I've now completed the reschedule list. If I've not yet come, you should have received a rebooking.

If you are waiting for a rescheduled appointment, please PLEASE get in touch - I've somehow missed you off!

February 1st. The end of the Spanish hunting season.

Most of you know, a couple of my Podencos are Spanish rescues. From Ibizan Hound Rescue.

Bred by hunters. Abandoned. Possibly, probably, because they didn't make the grade. Bronte, certainly, was terrified of gunshots. Rosa, well. Rosa was so badly treated it took her almost 2 years to willingly accept a treat of a lady we see several times a week, most weeks.

Rescued, after being dumped, they were lucky.

Each year, thousands of Podencos and Galgos are bred for hunting.

Those who don't make the grade, are discarded.

At the end of the hunting season, those who become too old, or not good enough, are discarded.

Some are shot and left bullet ridden to survive, or die.

Some thrown down wells.

Some, who anger the hunter, are punished, and die in unbelievably cruel ways.

Of those who are dumped, many starve on the streets. They are hit by cars, and die agonising deaths with broken legs, neck, back. They've no protection from disease, lots are mange and parasite-ridden.

Today marks the end of the hunting season.

Today, the deluge begins.

If you can, help them. End this. Consider adopting. Sponsor a rescue. Dontate. Spread a message. Know.

Today is Dia del Galgo. World Galgo Day.

Who doesn't love a mid-groom pause for some play!

This little love is a regular, and mum thinks she has me wrapped right round her paw. She's probably right 🤣

I do recall her name, but rather than share it, I've named her Tally.

Pricing changes from Jan 2022

Never a popular topic, but due to an increase in pricing for consumable grooming supplies, equipment, running costs and utilities, not to mention the almost 30% increase on average fuel pump price since Nov 2020, some of my prices will be changing from the 1st Jan 2022.

I have absorbed these increased business costs so far and kept my prices as low as possible for as long as possible, but unfortunately that is no longer sustainable.

From Jan 1st, there will be an average increase of £5 per groom, or £3 per claw set.

Prices are based upon things such as breed, demeanour, coat condition, styling and keeping a regular, appropriate, schedule. Any overdue, aggressive or significantly matted dogs are charged at a higher rate.

On a brighter note, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your custom this year, and wish everyone a very merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a bright and healthy (if not wealthy!) New Year.

Lets chat about treating our pets at Christmas.

If you go to any chain pet shop, you'll see lovely looking, brightly coloured "treats" for your pooch. Maybe they'll be shaped like Christmas trees, or stockings.

The majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China, and lets be clear. They are NOT a byproduct of the meat industry. They're a byproduct of the LEATHER industry.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.
The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin!

There are so many natural, safe treats you can buy, instead.

Please be safe with your dogs!

A great post, encouraging folks who are planning fireworks, to consider their surroundings.

They're very pretty, but some people and animals are very frightened by them. Sometimes, frightened to death. Literally.
