This came up on my feed…then I thought about:
A) how I would get the GDG pack in one trolley
B) the carnage that would occur with them trying to open and eat things
C) the dog has a HANDBAG 👜 😳🤣
D) I need to do my daily Italian lesson (day 809), like dog food, learning is best done in bite size chunks!

Enjoy your day x

If you’ve seen me wandering around between grooms recently, you’ll have spotted my new apron:

“Be a dog groomer, it’ll be fun, they said.”

Looking back through this week’s photos, I’d say they were right.

The week started with one of my regulars, a very handsome Labrador/Pointer cross, appointing himself Assistant Groomer. His duties included raiding the toy box, inspecting my brushes and trying to locate my lunch.

Wednesday was a little less glamorous. Peeling poo grapes off bottoms isn’t nearly as much fun as toy box raids and Labrador cuddles.

Thursday brought a pair of blue roan Cockers whose favourite pastime is emptying the laundry basket and hoarding towels, bedding and leads in a corner of the salon. Harry is exactly the same, so I’m well practised. They always make me laugh.

The best part of this job is getting to know dogs as individuals. Some are cheeky, some are sensitive, some are beautifully behaved, and some have very strong opinions about certain bits being touched. That’s okay. The salon should be a happy place, and I’d much rather work with a dog than force one.

On Thursday I drove home wondering why my face felt so dry and tight.

It wasn’t a skincare issue and I had not applied a clay face mask.

It was dried slobber, courtesy of the Cockers and the sweetest Cockerpoo.

Every dog brings something different to my day, whether that’s impeccable manners, endless kisses, or a talent for stealing the laundry.

And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The photos are the bit I can share. The best stories and laughter stay between me and the dogs.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and enjoy the cheeky monkey gallery!

I was not a popular Dog Mum when I got home.

Simba could instantly tell I’d spent some part of today grooming another Labrador. The sniff inspection was thorough, and bordering on forensic. The apathetic look of disdain when I sat down said it all (he’s now sat with his back to me).

Apparently smelling of somebody else’s Labrador glitter is an act of betrayal.

The other Labrador, meanwhile, was extremely pleased with himself, as well he might, because a) he is utterly gorgeous and b) perfectly behaved - even in the bath 🥰.

Hope everyone has had a great Bank Holiday weekend. Apart from emigrating to Alaska, the only other sensible option this weekend was to do a National Trust trip, nothing like an old stone house for keeping cool. This picture made me laugh, so had to share 🤣. The artist clearly wasn’t the best at animals.

Oh, and the reason for the post apart from the dodgy painting, the salon will be open tomorrow but for the morning only, open Thursday as usual, and closed Friday. Next week it’s back to usual opening hours.

This week started with full-on English Setter pack kisses and finished with a nervous Springer who arrived with her teeth literally chattering… then ended up resting her head on my shoulder and not wanting to leave once she realised grooming was not medieval torture after all.

Other highlights included snuggles with a Lagotto pup during his first trim, and a Pomeranian spent Friday leaning into the fluff dryer like he’d booked a luxury spa retreat and was expecting a fluffy robe and cucumber slices on the eyes. Simba is exactly the same 🤣, more of that later.

Less glamorous moments included clippers to my forehead, one wee puddle, one poo, and one catastrophic diarrhoea incident.
(All dogs, not me. Important clarification.)

This is one of the busiest times of year, so if your dog isn’t already on a regular schedule, last-minute appointments are unlikely, although cancellations do occasionally appear and priority is always given to existing clients.

Also, if your dog suddenly “needs a groom because it’s hot”, it’s worth remembering that once temperatures hit a certain point, I close the salon. It is because under the Animal Welfare Act, I have a duty of care to keep dogs comfortable and protected from unnecessary distress, including excessive heat and transport in high temperatures.

When that happens I will not be sitting outside eating ice cream - I become both Victorian and faintly Celtic in hot weather and sunlight, and would honestly rather stand in Tesco with my head in the freezer cabinet.

With the temperatures as they are, the salon is closed until Wednesday at the earliest, luckily that was planned anyway.

More bumper photo packs to follow.

Enjoy the sunshine, but be sensible and stay safe.

Sometimes groomers have to resort to a number of different tricks, silly voices, strange dances behind the camera, treat waving etc, just to get a dog to look in the camera. This morning, the word, “squirrel” worked like magic 🤣.
