I often hear the phrase 'There's no such thing as a reactive dog, its the owners fault' but this is not the case. There are so many reasons to why a dog is reactive such as: genetics, developmental, environmental, medical reasons, frustration, fear, Learnt, Experiences, Training and many more.

So if you have a reactive dog, please don't feel like its your fault.

*Consistency*

When training and handling your dog, consistency is everything. Lack of consistency from the owner can lead to lack of responsiveness from your dog, as the dog will be unable to identify the commands which they are being given and so will not understand what is expected of them.

Breaking down your goal into small, easy, clear, manageable steps will enable you and your dog to achieve the desired goal much more quickly and more successfully.

Update. Thank you for all your messages and offers of help. The rabbits have all now found foster homes. Once they are all vet checked and ready for homes, we will update further.

Well it's fair to say , we didn't expect a box of young Bunnies to be dropped off at the shelter today 😳 This box of rabbits was found by a member of the public at the side of the road ... The box was sealed up with tape 😞

We no longer have facilities for rabbits at the shelter so we are trying to find foster homes urgently. In the meantime we will need to purchase suitable housing and equipment to ensure their welfare needs are adequately met.

The rabbits are not for rehoming currently until they have undergone relevant vet checks etc. Thank you 🥰

Body Language

Being a dog trainer I am always looking out for the slightest of body language signals that dogs are indicating with each other. If these smallest of signals are missed the dogs use 'louder' signals and these louder signals could be a snap or even a bite. It's important to me as a dog walker that I am constantly looking out for these. Dogs reactions are super quick and you have to be quick to see these signals and intervene before it escalates.

This also means I don't stand and talk to people when Im out and about, I love a good chat but dogs are my priority and if chatting I can soon miss these signals. Plus standing and talking to people who also have dogs can make the dogs feel anxious and stressed because it's not natural for a dog to be stood in a position facing another dog without having the option to able to move away if the need too.

When you are looking to hire a dog walker, make sure they know how to read a dogs body language, if they cant, things can soon go wrong.
