A lovely little milestone today — we’ve brought home our next generation of blue and olive egg layers. 💙

They’re just 2 weeks old, starting to feather up, and already showing off their little personalities. It’ll be a few months before they’re laying, but we’ll enjoy every stage between now and then.

Once they reach maturity, we’ll have a short window of pullet eggs — those tiny, perfect first eggs young hens lay while they find their rhythm. They’re a seasonal, limited treat and always popular.

We’re also starting as we mean to go on:
their chick crumb is soya‑free, their grower pellets will be too, and eventually they’ll move onto our usual soya‑free layers pellets. No cutting corners — when these girls do start laying, they’ll have been fed soya‑free since they were 2 weeks old.

Practical note:
We’re still in a transitional period with just 25 of our original flock left, and 90 new red hybrids only just beginning to lay (one group of 50 hasn’t started yet). Because of this, we’re selling out almost every day — which is fantastic, and we’re so grateful for your support. It does mean it’s wise to call ahead if you’re making a special trip, just so we can be sure we’ve got what you need.

🌞 Summer Mode: Activated 🌞

All our flocks are now out in their free‑range summer housing and living their best lives — even if the weather is still debating whether to act on the summer memo.

We’ve got:
🥚 40 red hens laying like champions
🎨 25‑ish white hens producing white, pink, olive & blue eggs
⏳ 50 pullets who are still thinking about it
🐣 And 50 baby chicks arriving at the end of the week — future blue & olive egg queens

Egg supply will grow as the youngsters get going, so keep an eye out for updates.

🏨 Hen Hotels are now fully open!
If your hens need a holiday, we’ve got room, fresh bedding, and excellent room service — rain or shine.

Sometimes farming is tough, and I'm a soft sod.

We've just had a lamb pts as she started fitting badly today after a week of some very strange behaviour that we'd been monitoring.

I'm not gonna lie, I have proper blubbed over losing her, but I know we have done the right thing. She's no longer suffering.

She was called Pixie and had her own unique character, sleep tight little one 💔💔

🐱 Self-appointed Feline Head of Quality Control — Lamb Milk Division

Remus (aka Moose or Moomin, depending who you ask) has quietly appointed himself to an unknown but apparently vital role — one that nobody advertised, approved, or even knew existed.

R D Livestock Limited may have “cowcaine” (calf milk powder) that their dogs - mostly Wynn so we're told - like to sample/test/check for suitability for feeding to calves…
but this — this — is lamb milk.
And apparently it requires strict, senior‑level, face‑in‑the‑bucket quality control.

At nearly 17 years old, he believes he has absolutely earned the right to take on this vital role.
Frankly, he carries himself like a proud feline who’s been in the dairy industry for decades.
He would also like it known that he has been the official cheese sampler for years, so this is simply a natural career progression.

His credentials include:
✔ zero training
✔ zero permission
✔ absolute conviction he is indispensable
✔ ability to materialise the instant a bucket appears (a skill honed from years of appearing out of thin air the moment he hears a cheese packet being removed from the fridge)
✔ unwavering belief this entire department now reports directly to him

He calls it catcaine.
We call it “please stop auditing the lamb milk”.

He has also informed management that every single bucket will require personal inspection.

🐾 No notice
🐾 No exceptions
🐾 No shame

And at his age, we might be cutting him a little slack, except he's trying to pass on his skills to the next generation which is questionable at best.

🐑 Frozen Lamb Now Online — Last of last Season’s Lamb

The remainder of our latest lamb has now been added to the website — once it’s gone, that’s the very last of last year’s lamb.

Our next meat won’t be until late July, when we’ll have beautifully marbled Dexter beef available. Before that arrives, we need to clear the freezer… so if you’ve been waiting to stock up on lamb, now’s the moment.

Browse what’s left here:

Perfect for the freezer, perfect for summer cooking, and perfect for helping us make space for the incoming beef.

One of the best things about selling direct has to be getting to meet our customers. Honestly, you are such a lovely bunch — people who care about their food just as much as we do.
Knowing that our tiny little farm is helping feed local people good, nutritious, slow grown, locally raised food really does mean the world to us. We don’t just say “we hate supermarkets” and leave it at that — we try, in our own small way, to offer an alternative.
We’re so grateful to everyone who supports what we do. It’s always such a pleasure chatting when you pop by for your produce, and it’s exactly why we love doing this. 💚

🐑 Prime Farm Lamb – Fresh Today 🐑

We’re collecting lamb this afternoon and will have fresh cuts available between 5.30 – 6.30pm ⏰

You’re very welcome to come along — first come, first served ✅
🥩 Any cuts left over will be frozen and added to our website later.

🌿 Why this lamb is truly prime (and costs more to produce):
This is lamb from last year’s animals, born on our farm and raised by us, with a little help from friends who kindly allowed us to use their land 🤝

🐏 The lambs have lived outdoors on grass paddocks, with very minimal supplementary feeding.
When feed was needed, we chose a soya‑free mix 🌱

➡️ This costs us around £20 per bag, compared to about £10 for standard sheep feed 💷
We made this choice because soya is a known allergen, and we want to produce meat that’s as clean, considered, and accessible as possible — not the cheapest option, but the right one ✅

✅ Stress kept to an absolute minimum
✅ Medication only used when genuinely needed (very rarely)
✅ Slower, natural growing = better flavour and texture

💚 This is proper, prime‑quality lamb, raised with care and intention — and it shows on the plate 🍽️

🥚✨ Eggs Back in Stock — and Plenty to Go Around!
It’s been a little while since we’ve had many eggs spare, but all of a sudden the girls have decided to get back into the swing of things — which means we’ve now got several trays building up (and yes, I’m finally nabbing a few for our own cooking again!).

If you’d like some, we currently have:

🐓 Full‑size eggs (from our adult hens)
£2.30 half dozen / £4.10 dozen

🐣 Small “pullet” eggs
From our new young hens who are just starting to lay their very first eggs.
£1.90 half dozen / £3.50 dozen

Small eggs are brilliant for salads and pickling — just let them sit on the counter for a week or so before boiling so the shells release cleanly.

Pullet eggs are only available for a short time while the young girls find their laying rhythm and their eggs settle into a regular size, so they’re limited‑availability and very much a seasonal treat.

Full trays remain reserved for our YOLK subscribers, but boxed eggs are available as usual.

🌿 A Little Update on the Flock
We’re in a transition period at the moment. Some of our oldest ladies have recently gone off to lovely quieter homes to enjoy their retirement, and we’ve brought in new young hens who are just finding their feet (and their laying rhythm).

Right now we have two groups laying:

28 older white layers giving us a beautiful mix of white, blue, olive and light pink eggs

A new flock of young brown egg layers, now producing a steady 12–16 eggs per day

Our newest youngsters haven’t quite got going yet — but they will

And we have another new flock arriving in a couple of weeks

All our hens are soya‑free fed, and they’ll soon be back out free‑ranging.

🛠️ About the free‑ranging
The winter flockdown meant all pens had to be dismantled to prevent damage in the winds. We’re now rebuilding them properly so the girls can get back out safely with plenty of space. It’s taking a bit of time (as these things do when you’re juggling livestock and life), but it’s all positive progress — and they’ll be roaming again very soon.

🛒 A quick note about the kiosk
If the kiosk isn’t stocked when you pop by, it’s probably because it gets a bit warm in there on sunny days. If you want to make sure you can get the eggs you’d like, feel free to give us a ring on 07396 703729 before you come over.

If you’d like some eggs, just drop me a message or pop by the kiosk. Thank you for supporting our little flock through all its seasonal ups and downs — the girls and I appreciate it.
