Please don’t give your pet human medication. 💊🚫

We know it’s tempting when they seem sore, itchy, or unwell, but many common human meds can be dangerous and even life-threatening for pets, even in small doses. Pets process medicines differently, and what’s “safe for people” can cause stomach ulcers, kidney or liver damage, bleeding, or poisoning.

Also, giving medication can mask important symptoms, making it harder to diagnose what’s really going on.

If your pet isn’t feeling well, call us first. We’ll help you figure out what’s urgent, what you can do safely at home, and the right treatment for your pet’s size and situation. 💛

Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is one of the most common causes of ongoing itchiness in dogs, and is usually linked to environmental allergies, such as pollen, dust mites, and moulds. It often starts when dogs are young.

Many dogs with CAD show:
🐾 Constant scratching, rubbing, or licking, especially of the paws
🐾 Red or inflamed skin
🐾 Recurrent ear infections or head shaking
🐾 Chewing the legs, belly, or armpits
🐾 “Hot spots” or skin infections that keep coming back

There’s no single quick test to diagnose it. Diagnosis usually involves a full history, tests to rule out other conditions and, in some cases, allergy testing.

Although CAD is a chronic condition, it can be managed. Treatment can include:
🐶 Flea prevention
🐶 Medicated shampoos/skin barrier support
🐶 Anti-itch and anti-inflammatory medication tailored to your dog
🐶 Treatment of any secondary infections
🐶 Allergy immunotherapy (“allergy shots/drops”) for some dogs

If your dog is licking their paws, scratching daily, or getting repeat ear infections, get in touch with us!
