This Gemini 120 electric fence energiser was sent in for repair. The output was only at 1kv and it clicked very quietly, which is a classic symptom of low output. It was taken apart and diagnosed to be a failed output transformer, which is very common on these fencers. Once this was replaced it was back to a healthy output of 8.8-9.1kv . Large box of energisers all but one fixed !.

Esb 202 repair sent in by a customer. This one was showing low voltage on the led when in use and would pulse intermittently.
Strangely when it did the output was normal.
Under the pulse transformer runs the gate pulse line that fires the SCR. Water had gotten under the transformer and corroded the line to about 0.1mm thick, so it was barely thick enough to provide enough current to the gate to trigger the SCR.
This trace was repaired, I then realised the resistor on this line was also corroded to death, so replaced this too and it was pulsing normally then.
The output cap ESR was off so the output cap was also changed.
The unit is now back working properly again and giving full output and now reality turns on first time instead of like before where it would take 5 mins to even begin pulsing properly.

These two electric fence energisers were posted into me for repair. Both were not discharging and both had SCR and capacitor issues. Once the faulty parts had been replaced they were both then back working once again and ready to return to the customer.

Today this electric fence energiser was sent in and it won’t discharge at all. This is usually due to a bad SCR or part of that circuit. In this case the SCR and the driving transistor were bad.

Something a little different to the norm today. I also do general electronics repair, so can repair a lot of things that have faults and not just micro elect...

Falcon electric fence energiser now all fixed.
It was posted in and when plugged in would light up the LED but wouldn’t discharge at all.

The Triac was replaced on the motherboard and it’s now back working once again!
