Me and My Dogs With Jobs
My love of Dogs has taken me on many adventures I never thought Dogs and especially myself would ever be capable of doing, seeing what these incredible animals can do fuelled my passion for Dogs even more and since leaving the forces in 2017 I want to share my experiences and knowledge with others.
I grew up with Dogs and from a young age always volunteered myself to look after and walk other peoples Dogs, this extended to horses where I eventually trained and instructed on a basic level. I currently have two pet Dogs, Misha, Northern Inuit aka gentle giant and Dilly, Sprocker, my retired RAF weapons and explosive search dog.
My career in the Royal Air Force started in 2008, after travelling around Australia and not wanting to return to my job as a trainee Pharmacy Technician I decided to apply for the forces where I was accepted and completed all my training, in 2009 I became RAF Military Police. Following on from this I naturally progressed onto becoming a Military Police Dog Handler, completing my Patrol Dog Handler and Baiters course.
My first posting was at RAF Benson and I was handed my first ever Military Working Dog Rocco, he was a lovely experienced German Shepherd who showed me the ropes! Initially my role as a Police Dog Handler was to train and work Patrol Dogs mainly German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. I thoroughly enjoyed this role and loved all the training and working aspects of the job, I learnt a lot about the personalities and capabilities of the breeds and how to train and work them effectively. Our main duty was to patrol the bases, protect the aircraft and apprehend any intruders during hours of darkness, I can honestly say I defiantly wouldn't have felt safe doing this without my rifle and ‘land shark’ at the end of the lead!
