🌞 Summer is here — let’s keep our fur babies safe! 🐾
With the temperatures rising, it’s crucial to remember that our pets feel the heat much more than we do. Dogs cannot regulate heat like humans — they rely mostly on panting, which isn’t always enough in extreme temperatures. Plus, they take longer to adjust to sudden changes in weather, meaning those early hot days can be especially dangerous.
🐕 Walk Smart:
Please avoid walking your dogs in the middle of the day when it’s hot. It’s not just about the ground being too hot for their paws — the air temperature can also put them at serious risk of heatstroke. The safest times to walk are early in the morning or late in the evening when things have cooled down.
🚗 Never leave dogs in cars:
Even on a warm day, a car can reach deadly temperatures in as little as 10 minutes — even with the windows cracked open. It’s simply not safe. If you wouldn’t sit in that car yourself, your dog shouldn’t either!
💧 Tips for keeping dogs cool:
✅ Make sure they have constant access to fresh, cool water
✅ Set up shaded areas in your garden or yard
✅ Use a cool mat or damp towel for them to lie on
✅ Let them play with a sprinkler or paddling pool
✅ Offer dog-friendly frozen treats or ice cubes
✅ Keep indoor spaces well-ventilated — consider a fan or air conditioning if possible
🐶 Be their voice:
If you see a pet in distress or a situation you’re uncomfortable with — speak up. Whether it’s a dog left in a car or someone walking their pet in dangerous heat with it struggling — sometimes your voice can save a life.
However, please be mindful of people in flats or without gardens who may just be letting their dog down for a quick wee or to do their business! There are circumstances where people may need to pop out quickly. 🙌🏻.
Please think of the animals this summer and help our furry friends stay happy, healthy, and safe. 💛🐾
