This pretty girl has been back in this morning for a bath and a de-shed — she was such a good girl from start to finish 🫧

Roxy can be a little nervous, so we’ve been taking things at her pace and building her confidence — it’s been so lovely to see her little personality starting to shine through. We now get tail wags, kisses & she’s always happy to accept a few treats 🍪💞

What are the different types of scissors? ✂️

Different types of scissors are used throughout a groom to achieve different finishes and shapes 🐶

Straight scissors are commonly used for creating clean lines and defining the shape of the coat ✂️

Curved scissors are designed to help create rounded shapes, making them ideal for areas such as the head, feet and legs 🌙

Thinning scissors remove bulk from the coat and help blend different lengths of hair together, creating a softer, more natural finish 🫧

Using the correct scissors for each part of the groom helps achieve a balanced finish whilst maintaining comfort and safety for the dog 💖

Every groom is tailored to the individual dog’s coat type, condition and lifestyle 🐾

Why do groomers use different brushes? 🪮

Different brushes and combs are designed for different coat types and grooming purposes 🐶

A soft slicker brush can help remove loose coat and is often used for regular brushing on many coat types 🫧

A hard slicker brush can help work through thicker coats and help to remove loose undercoat and tangles 🐩

A comb is used to check through the coat after brushing. The wide teeth can help work through the coat, whilst the fine teeth can help find any remaining knots, tangles or matting 🐾

Regular brushing helps keep the coat knot-free and comfy, and stops matting from building up over time

Using the correct tools for your dog’s coat type can help keep the coat healthy and make grooming more comfortable 💖

What is hand stripping? 🫧

Hand stripping is a grooming technique used on certain breeds & coat types to remove dead coat. This can be done by hand (often using chalk for grip) or with specialist hand stripping tools 🐶

For wire-coated breeds such as Border Terriers, Westies and Schnauzers, hand stripping helps remove dead coat whilst maintaining the coat’s natural texture, colour and appearance ✂️

For some Spaniels, hand stripping can help remove dead coat from the jacket and maintain a smooth, flat appearance 🐾

Not every dog requires hand stripping, and some owners do prefer to have their wire-coated pets clipped for easier maintenance 💖
